Earlier one (09.06) is via Wolverhampton and my ticket stipulated not via Wolverhampton. Also, it gets into Shrewsbury at 11.21 which is pushing it.

Later one (10.31) is direct and gets into Shrewsbury at 11.40 which pushes it even further.

Sorry, yes, I always buy on train line from Piccadilly. The extra cost for doing it from Bolton is a lot more than the cost of an off-peak return Bolton to Picc.
