got the first weekend out the way, that's the hardest one

nearly a 3rd of the way through now

by Sunday it'll be half way

back in the gym properly today

all going in the right direction

I think I'll try and do the whole month now just to see how much, if any, weight I lsoe by not drinking

How much did you spend the other year, several thousand wasn't it?

Must be heavier of wallet!

It all started going wrong for pubs when they introduced all day drinking. Well, licencing hours.

'Spoons and others started opening at 8 or 9 and 'doing breakfasts', then they started serving beer, so the drinking day just moved earlier. Problem was the number of drinkers didn't increase. It just meant that staff had to be found, and paid for a longer time, and bills for lecky and gas soared. Even by standards of the day.

At first it was okay, but when money got a bit tighter and supermarkets realised they could, they started knocking alcohol out cheap. Add to that Covid, and people got used to drinking at home. Have as many as you want, smoke as many as you want and there's no need to even get your shoes on.

Problemis,I like pubs.

I started my Dry January today, the match on Saturday and friends round for dinner on Saturday evening was the reason for the delay.

I’ll now stay off the booze until at least the 10th February and maybe longer.

I’m not  a big drinker in the week as I’m up and out of the door at 6.30 but I usually make up for it on Friday night and Saturday.

After drinking too much for about 2 weeks solid over Christmas and new year I had a quiet weekend with nowt. Fucking hell, I have a bad cold which didn't help but it's not been good. Big wake up call that you can't keep doing that to yourself.

Moderation from now on, stop being a dickhead.

Strange not feeling like shite on a Monday and actually having some energy, don't quite know what to do with myself 🤣

I knocked Sunday drinking on the head about 10 or 15 years ago. I never have a single drop on a Sunday now unless there is a specific good reason for it, as I hated waking up on a Monday feeling shit.

I generally don't drink on a "school night" either, unless I'm away with work.

I keep my drinking to Fridays and Saturdays.....and then I do generally go for it 😶

Never been a big weekend drinker as work was booze fuelled. Thursday nights were always big as generally bigger agencies knock off at 2/3 ish, go to the pub with clients or the drinks trolley came out 😁. But now I'm at home don't do that so I like a Friday night sup.

Saturday nights I've never really had a drink, same for sunday, still don't even though the week drinking has dissipated somewhat.

two weekends down

two to go

next beer will be Friday 3rd Feb, so pretty much half way there

found that once you get past the first weekend, it's really not so bad, if you can keep the mind occupied

got John Richardson at Stockport Plaza this Friday, and Derby away on Saturday

following weekend down in Wales with some nice restaurants booked

plenty of tv and films lined up for the evenings, plus NFL to watch

no chance of crumbling, feeling good about it all

don't appear to be losing much weight though

I’m doing 90 days so 1st April is current target.

That urge to drink does wear off.

bored shitless

Impressive. I've certainly cut down - although I did have a mental one last week with a work thing that went onto 4am on a school night, so I reckon that counts as a good few sessions in one.

I'd be really struggling not to have a drink at an away game or weekend away so serious admiration for that

Aways this season are with mate and his lad with one of us driving so easy enough to skip as it's not a heavy session

A normal weekend away somewhere new would demand beer but Wales is regular so not fussed

All that said, it's still definitely a new outlook

February will be about Friday and Saturday only

Got some midweek gigs in march so it will probably fall apart then

But another kid rocking up in April so the Mrs will expect soberness mostly

So yeah, might go off the wagon march for the sake of it

the guidance has always been detached from the real world in every country

or maybe the real world has always been detached from what is actually meant to be good for you

in the history of alcohol, I'd be amazed if anyone ever read the guidelines, contemplated, then followed the guidance

if they did, they never took their drinking seriously anyway

Mentioned it at the time, but I was eventually on first name terms with the DHL driver who was dropping cases of ale off twice a week during the first lockdown.

Drank some ale I did.
