  1. Yes but they have better players and a manager who has a plan, we have been in the brown stuff all season so just enjoy our last few games with the big lads cos it will be a while before we visit these shores again.

QPR's plan for the January transfer window was to buy their way to safety, ours was to sell our best player.

  2. How many good signings has coyle made?

    Holden? is that it?

Plenty of bad uns and a lucky miss not signing Vela from Arsenal and ending up with Sturridge.

Doesn't that mean you think Sturridge was a good signing?

And you don't rate Petrov, Wilshire, Ream , Wheater or Reo-Coker?

  3. Can't argue with any of that.

. As I say can't argue the points you made, but the current squad is worse than what he inherited albeit younger and cheaper.

Disagree.I think if everyone was fit our team is better now than when Gary Megson was sacked despite the one now being cheaper.

The midfield was terrible then. Petrov,Holden,Reo-Coker,Lee is better than most in the Premier League. All of them cheap signings.

  4. You are forgetting the minor issue of the 5-0 drubbing we gave them earlier in the season. Don't you think they'll want to get one over on us?

Not enough to give it the same effort they did in the Fa Cup semi final. And when they aren't giving it 100% that opens the door for us.

Sunderland have too much pace and quality for us to get anything against them even at them giving 80% effort, not so Stoke.

  5. You're right - Fulham have better players. They also pick better managers.

But then again, you could say Fulham played well because we let them; we were that poor.

For all their better players, Fulham struggle away from home. They've dropped points at Wolves, Blackburn, Villa & WBA this season (among others). We gave them their biggest away win, I think.

Gallant away defeats will not make up for underperforming home defeats. Simple as. It's all about points and the players need to fight like fook for them in every game.

That's all about cash of course. There's no way Mark Hughes, Roy Hodgson or Martin Jol would accept a job at Bolton with the budget Eddie Davies has given Owen Coyle.

"Here's ?7 million Mark, replace Holden, Lee, Elmander, Sturridge, Al Habsi, Taylor and and cut the wage bill"

    "Goodbye Eddie"

  6. We need to win at Villa, and will do I believe.

I don't think there's any chance of winning at Villa.Villa have hard matches before then and will need to beat us to confirm safety.Their attacking players are in a different class to ours and will get the 3 points like they did at the Reebok.Sunderland would have to be out on the razz the night before to not beat us, that's a write off.

Stoke is the winnable one. They'll have nothing to play for and couldn't be arsed at home to Wigan on the last day of last season

  7. Just watching Fulham v Chelsea. That team that so many were saying we should be beating are absolutely all over the champions league semi finalists.

Because Fulham don't have the tradition or support of most Premier League clubs I don't think it's sunk in with some Bolton fans they are richer and can afford better players than we can.

  8. Sounded decent solid performance if Coyle would have picked that team on Saturday we would not have zero points this weekend.

    Why is that?

Fulham have better players than Bolton in nearly all if not every position. If Fulham play well as they as did on Saturday they will beat all the teams at the bottom, not just Bolton.

Bolton can only beat the likes of Fulham and Newcastle if the opposition don't give it 100%.

  9.

I actually think we've got a fairly strong squad on paper

You are deluded. Ngog, Mark Davies and Pratley are Championship players who wouldn't get offered a contract at Fulham. And Fulham are just run of the mill mid table fodder. Those 3 aren't good enough for this league but have to play because they are better than the rest Coyle can use.

  10. OK, so we'll excuse the season after Muamba's Cardiac Arrest and put the three wins down to adrenalin. How the fuckety fuck do we excuse the portion of season prior to Muamba's Cardiac Arrest? If we do end up going down it won't be because of the last 10 games of the season, it'll be because of the first 28.

Bolton weren't in the bottom 3 after 28 games when Muamba collapsed

    JSL..

  11. The problem with having a midfield and strike force half made up with Championship players....if they don't work harder than the opposition they'll be outclassed by mid table Premier League teams.

We've still got enough winnable matches left but we'll only win them with more workrate than we got today.

  12. Well done to Owen for overcoming the terrible injuries and smaller budget to beat QPR, Blackburn and Wolves in the crucial relegation battles.

I didn't know until reading the match report that Wolves paid ?7 million for Roger Johnson. That's Owen's budget for the back four and midfield!

  13. no shame in that

i thought they looked relatively solid, certainly very well organised, against the best team in the country

I hope QPR and Wigan are just as solid and well organised when they play Man Utd next week......and both lose 2-0.

  14. we could well need 40 pts but there's not a chance in hell that we'll get'em....36 tops imho

You must be a glass half empty kinda guy.

A club that has won its last 3 league games really does have a chance of winning 3 and drawing 2 of its next 8

  15. Belting away day. Cracking subs from the Barclays Premier League manager of the month for March, changed the game in our favour.

Yeah we rode our luck first half but we're due some. Very good second half though. Can't believe the time Davies had on the ball to score that third!

Quality of some of Petrov's deliverys, two in particular in build up to second goal, was superb.

    Very much enjoyed that

They say the second half is the managers half.

It's not our problem but it's amazing that Wolves have let Terry Connor get them relegated. They have more talent in their midfield and definitely attack than Bolton imo.

  16. Is this post serious? It can't be..... can it?

Bolton finshed 6th under Sam Allardyce without a striker who could finish, all they had was Kevin Davies.

They finished 6th because they had a very strong midfield. It was much cheaper to sign top quality midfield players.Canny one that Sam.

  17. I'd rest the first team for next weeks bigger games against Villa and Blackburn and give the likes of Knight, Muamba and Tuncay a chance to show what they can't do.

We'll lose whichever team is selected.

  18. What the fuck is it with Coyle and wingers? he seems to target them more than other positions, don't go there with Pratley.

It's a waste of time trying to buy a Premier League striker with only the ?4 million he had to buy Ngog or only the ?3 million he had to sign Sordell so he may as well sign wingers. It's cheaper to sign wingers who may be good enough for the division.

  19. I couldn't care less if they're shit. All day session with a load of mates, a festival atmosphere and get to hear Roses songs. I've seen Ian Brown tons of times and sometimes he can be really good.

Got tickets for Friday, as i think his voice will deteriorate as the weekend progresses.

That's a refreshing attitude.I wish some of the moaners on here would go to the Reebok determined to enjoy themselves come what may.

  20. "Plans in place". Not really conclusive on how long we can stay in the lower leagues, but thanks for the link to the all knowing BEN.

If that article isn't conclusive what would you want Gartside to say to convince you?
