Nova Iguacu V. Fluminense

OK, I know you're all dying to know the result ......

Nova Iguacu ... 0 Fluminense ... 2

Small but lively crowd - lots of flags & boing-boing. Drummers with a samba beat. Warm humid afternoon. Little Brazilian magic on show, but two hard working skilful teams whose players know how to withstand a heavy challenge, make accurate passes over any distance, and have great control on a bumpy sandy surface. Two late goals - great headers from breakaways by Wagner (the same one who played in Russia in recent years ?). Very few fouls, absolutely no theatrics, and no arguing with the officials; how refreshing. Was probably the Fluminense 'B' team since it's only the start of the Rio State Championship.

All in all, just like being at the Reebok. Sort of. Maybe. If I'd been p*ssed.

Send the Wanderers players over here to learn some football lessons and send the Reebok drummers over here to learn some samba beat.

End of.

been to Lapa yet?

Watch out in Lapa, that place is dodgy. Guns and rapings galore, I'm not exaggerating either.

I went to the Vasco de Gama vs Fluminense in the Campeonato Brasileiro back in 2010, 80k+ attendance, great atmosphere and the last game before the Maracana refurbishment was started ahead of the WC next year.

Lapa is it.

Just be a bit careful

Changed cities now.

Was in La Bombonera earlier this afternoon. No match though. Shame.
