  1. oh yeah I've heard it's very cheap there! Especially if you drive a formular 1 car! I do know someone who shoots pigeons up on the common rather than golf balls.
  2. I didn't think Woodbury was cheap! It has an expensive golf course. Or do you mean the little tunnel the marines play in?
  3. I've just stood outside work and the sun is shining, the breeze is lovely. No damp patches in the area today!
  4. Sometimes quick is better!
  5. All you're all interested is a cheap place to stay in Devon!
  6. You're a catch? So you think you're so fly you have to fish for compliments??
  7. It would cost you more than a quid for me to answer!
  8. Thank you for all your help!!(??) Or are you just trying to prove that Northerner's are friendlier that us from the South? From what I can gather, he was signed to Bolton in between times at Accrington and before his move to the 'Beautiful South'! I'm never 100% sure that what was written way back when was correct as all players for Exeter who came from Lancashire were supposed to have worked in mills. I know my man ran a tobacconist shop. Not very PC!
  9. Ive found a letter written by the chairman on the trip down to South America. The team 'picked' their captain and trainer half way through the voyage. Funny how things change. Can you imagine any team not having a training programme or captain before a tour now? I know that the team returned via Liverpool after WW1 started and the ship had trouble coming back into British waters. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.4308348428153.180658.1270086079&type=1#!/photo.php?fbid=4308348868164&set=a.4308348428153.180658.1270086079&type=1&theater Hopefully the above is the link for the photo mentioned earlier. I hope you're finding this all interesting! My nephew is interested in history and football so we thought this would be a good idea to keep him busy. Thanks for you help. Alison
  10. Thanks for being so quick! I'll double check what years he's supposed to have played but the local paper with his bio is the one not on fisch in the local library! (knew we should have scanned the original we when we saw it). By the way, your forum is 100% better at helping me than Accrington's - no help from them when I asked. I will also try to upload the picture as you might be able to identify something in it to confirm it is Bolton and not the local church team. Alison
  11. Hi I am helping my 8 yr old nephew with a holiday project. We are looking into the life of Jimmy Rigby. Jimmy was born in Bolton and played for them in the early 1900s. I am hoping that someone who is a member of this forum will be able to help in additional info on his playing career. My family have a connection to him as his oldest daughter married my great uncle. In brief, I do know that he played for Bolton and Accrington before moving to Exeter (where I live) for the 1911/12 season. He was captain of the team that played in South America in 1914. The team played what is recorded as the first Brizilian national team during that tour. He went on to fight during WW1 before returning to Exeter in 1919. I have been told by his step grandson that he had the opportunity to return to Bolton but his wife refused to move back. He also let me have a copy of a photo of a team with Jimmy in it. The team consists of some very young players wearing white shirts. Could this be a Bolton team? I would be happy to let you see a copy of this picture if anyone feels them might be able to identify players or team. I hope you don't think I'm being too cheeky using your forum for this but I would be grateful for any help to fill in some of Jimmy's early career. Thanks Alison
