  1. Called in fanzone ready to hate the experience but in all honesty was quiet impressed

Yes ,it was a long queue, but i got a decent pint at the end of it , unlike the shite i have been served up in the stadium for years

I think if we stick with it service will improve and it will be a good meeting point before matches

  2. Been on the rattler from Bolton a few times before covid

Bowland brewery advertises itself as the longest bar in the UK, but it is oval in shape and the hand pumps repeat about 4 times

they sell ale off cheap when its coming to the end of barrels but not at weekends , food is pretty good too

lots of traditional boozers and a couple of micro pubs with craft beers

plus dont forget to visit the sausage shop near the castle before you leave

  3. Whilst we are on takeaway food cast our minds back to the late 1970s when the kebab or elephants leg  appeared in our take away establishments

Many on here will have swayed into the old Bolton supper bar and fallen back out of the door with said product

Some of us might have gone and had one at lunch time sober either in Bolton or maybe Manchester . the point being that the dross that sells in Bolton at the moment as a kebab at most takeaways is unrecognisable

some grilled meat .sliced iceberg lettuce and tomato thrown in a polystyrene tray with a bland tomato based sauce does not a kebab make

i want large warm pitta bread

i want half a house brick of raw shredded cabbage and onion

i want quality elephants leg , not greasy or full of bone chips n gristle

i want a chilli sauce full of pepper seeds that will remove several layers of my face skin as it burns it off

then i want my fresh salad on top with at least 2 pickled green chili peppers

and i want "would you like salt and lemon sir?"

then you can advertise that you sell kebabs instead of the crap out there

and a shawarma whilst good is not a 1970s kebab

The Highland clearances following the end of the Jacobite cause, the spread of sheep farming. The end of a way of life. I’m fascinated by this period in our history.

    Split our ancestors

half ended up on the wagon trains in Canada , looking for a new life

Very few people in todays society now and care about the Clearances

For me its no different to the potatoe famine and that huge movement of people from Ireland

The media loves to paint this picture of all white males living in stately homes in the British Isles

  5. A hind crossed in front of me late Tuesday night in the dip between Blackburn and Halliwell road

Saw the road kill up Scout road today , sad to think it might have been the same beautiful animal that made me smile 24 hours earlier

    I’ll DM you mate.

Id highly recommend an unvented (pressurised) system.

Assume you have a water tank in the loft feeding the system? Or is the tank one with a small water buffer on top?

Yes , i have a tank in the loft , house built 89

gas boiler itself is small ,old and crappy

i need to sort it all out this summer i think

    A combi?

You're basically killing the planet. And they’re fucking shit.

An immersion, my good man, uses electricity. Like a Tesla. Like an air source heat pump. Like everything modern.

our reliance on fossil fuels needs to end quickly.

This brings the “old” immersion heater front and centre of the green revolution.

    Gas combi boilers? Sooooooo 1990’s

I have an old immersion tank up stairs in a large cupboard, my boiler is in the garage. Should i be replacing my old tank with a new pressurised system ? What would this cost?

Ah really made me sad this mate :(

Hopefully he will have a good life legging it about some fields. Maybe just wasnt meant to be domesticated.

I've posted about it before, but Ive seen the difference massively in this nob head and my other dogs. Hes from a working family and way more boisterous than our last lab.

The jogger thing resonates as he legs it them, barks and jumps about them. Obviously all he sees is a mad cunt in illuminous clothes running at us so goes mad, luckily he hasnt took a chunk out yet, it was rather embarrassing 🙈.  Hes stricly on his lead down the lane now and only off on the field.

Like yours hes great in the house and soft as shite, bar wanting 24 hour attention and play time.

My Mrs is on about taking him to this mad Czech dog trainer. Its about £250 for the day and he sorts em out. Think he bums them in the woods and makes them fight a bear or summet.

Hopefully you get back on the horse and get another pal. A lass I know just got a black lab crossed with springer. Creates a mini lab, calm as a cucumber as well..

I have one of these , she looks like a young black lab.

Everyone asks how old she is because she looks like lab pup , endless energy when off lead and behaves just like a working springer covering ground to pick up birds.

Inside home and pub behaves like a lab , calm and relaxed , but not food driven and will leave food alone all day

    an absolute gem

It’s a pity the Sweet Green has been mentioned on here. Used to be the best.

the ale in there about 79 to 83 was nectar

what that pillock Kevin has done to one of my favourite pubs is a crime

but as i age , if people dont use them  we loose them

always used to start at the Howcroft

Was it a freak of geography or a freak of a 1974 boundary change. Fairly sure Belmont, Lancs was an outpost of Bolton until Greater Manchester swallowed us up, administratively but missed Belmont and Edgworth to become Blackburn with Darwen outposts.

it was always a late run to pub shot late 70 s as they had later opening
