October 13, 200520 yr Did anyone else on here have the bright idea of flying to Santiago and then hiring a car to drive to Guimaraes? Anyone have any idea how far and how long this likely to take? I tseemed like a good idea at th time!
October 13, 200520 yr Aye 2 hours 15 minutes according to viamichelin.com 120km, 105km motorway (pretty much a straight run) I think, so should be fine Apparently no border controls either so just drive right through into Portugal

October 13, 200520 yr Why not stay in Porto. Not far if you have a car. There are 9 of us staying in a B+B for ??17 a night. Hotel has good reviews and is centrally located for bars etc. :bb

October 13, 200520 yr Well if you are gonna drive from Santiago, you want to stay in Guimaraes I reckon. Cos then you can get parked up and forget about driving til you head home. I hired a car through argus, ??44 all told for thurs and fri...this could actually become ??64 if extra insurance is needed to take it to Portugal

October 13, 200520 yr Think you may struggle to find anywhere in Guimaraes now Steevo. We were looking at Braga if we couldn't get Guimaraes. Looks near enough for taxis. Maybe you could even meet up with Lennie

October 14, 200520 yr Yep, just as dim as ralf. We're staying in the centre of Porto. We're there from Late Wednesday til Sunday so we get to have a pint with the jocks when we arrive. 8- If anybody is struggling, we've had a drop out so we've got a flight from manchester, 4 nights b+b and transport for about ??300.
