Jason Roberts Update

Besiktas have lodged a ??2 million bid for Jason Roberts, skysports.com can reveal.

The Turkish outfit were linked with the Grenada international earlier this month and are understood to have already had two bids turned down.

Now, skysports.com can reveal that the Turks have gone back with a new offer of ??2 million.

"Yes, we have increased our bid up to ??2 million for Jason Roberts," Besiktas sporting director Erdil Arpaci confirmed to skysports.com.

"We are very keen on signing him and hope we can agree a deal with him."

Besiktas boss Jean Tigana is well aware of Roberts's abilities having managed in England with Fulham for a number of years and he feels the former West Brom striker has the right qualities to succeed in Turkey.

Wigan are keen to keep hold of Roberts, but their interest in Andy Johnson signals that Paul Jewell is looking to bring in new strikers - which could see him give the green-light to a possible move.

??2 million - lets have him.

i agree a strong battling player. but i still prefer the Borg! but for 2mil why not

He was good in "Once Upon a Time In the West"; went downhill after "Raise the Titanic" though [-X

Pretty sure the inbreds would ask for more than ??2m off us for him

good point - well made.

He was good in "Once Upon a Time In the West"; went downhill after "Raise the Titanic" though [-X

Think that was Jason Robards
