It was about that time, I was an apprentice carpet fitter. I got picked up in the morning as usual by the fitter. He had a white van which was unlettered. Unfortunately the night before while he was parked outside the gym in Bolton town centre someone had put graffiti in spray paint on the side of the van in big letters 'RUDE BOYS'. We went to the first job of the day and stopped outside her house. It was an elderly lady who spotted us through the window but was too frightened to come to the door when we knocked on. It took us about 15 minutes to convince her that we were the workmen, and not just some random yobs.
