Rivington Pike Tower

Have any of you old fuckers got any pictures prior to the 1974 restoration?

Or know of any decent local history books on Rivington & Winter Hill?

Thanks. :good:

Can't be arsed looking through and doing everything for you but Google does actually work if you put the right stuff in!

Searched high and low on Google, only found one daubed with graffiti "USSR We want houses not Polaris" from the early 70's and one from the 1880's in a PDF document showing the original doorway and chimney.

Edit: Had a quick look at the site you posted and it has no photo's of relevance. :good:

Edit 2: Here's the pic. rivington_pike.jpg

No, I looked afterwards. I did, however, find a great pic of Winter Hill and the masts that has become my desktop picture.1019941.jpg

It doesn't matter where you've been; an away trip to London, Birmingham, North East, etc. or even a trip abroad, there's nothing like this picture to say "Nearly home!"

There's this that is on sale via Horwich RMI Harriers:

Rivington Pike History and Fell Race

A 200 page book covering the history of the Pike Tower and describing places of historic interest which are found on the course taken by the Pike Race. Includes a review of the development of "pedestrianism" from the late 1800's which leads on to the history of the Rivington Pike Fell Race itself. The fell race is considered to be the second oldest in he country and is a classic short fell race.
