  1. Just very wary about doing a deal for a new manager when we have Phoenix on board whose main skill is in doing deals. Can't we get a manager either internally or externally without doing a deal? Which sort of makes Phoenix unnecessary.

Also very wary about landing up with a load of Premier League dross on loan again next season because we have done deals. Much better with our own and free agent transfers. There's plenty about.

  2. Never hung back on a tackle.

When he came in people thought he would do better than he did.

How many came to us via the Dudley scout? Roy Hartle, Dennis Stevens, Sam Allardyce are 3 that spring to mind.

  3. 1 hour ago, Tonge moor green jacket said:

I can get that to a point, but at some point these youngsters have to be blooded to give them that experience and physical 'baptism' to find out if they can manage it.

As well as they may be coached, at some point they have to be given an opportunity to "grow up" for the want of a better description.

I don't suppose it helps if there's little correlation between what the first team and the youth set up are doing.

The interview with TP suggests that they are looking for this sort of continuity, which seems perfectly reasonable.

It takes a while for players to come through. It's not long ago that a fair few were saying that Chris Basham and Aaron Mooy were at Blackpool and St. Mirren respectively for a reason. Anyway, if you don't give plsyers a chance it's more than likely they won't make the grade.

  4. The u-23s were a beautifully coached team (by Lee) 2 years ago when they won the national league. Unfortunately the pass and move football was totally at odds with the Parkinson lump it style.

The good players were never given a sniff of 1st team football by Parkinson and we have a lousy record of bringing through our own. 20 mins now and then in a failing team wouldn't have made much difference.

18 yos straight into the league doesn't strike me as a winning formula, remember early season? And trying out overseas players/non leaguers should be a key for us and the u-23s are the means to do this.

So sorry Tobias, this is a daft idea.

  5. I thought we'd made a fair bit out of selling Holding and Clough. £5m?

The problem with academy graduates, etc. atm is that we got rid of most of our u-23s at the end of last season. 2 years ago the u23s were a handy team. So we are a bit short of players at that level. I don't think we give players long enough post academy.

  6. Funny how 3 defenders in our best performance of the season away at Bristol Rovers are no longer with the club/deemed surplus. It's only Zouma's first season in league football ffs. Anyway player recruitment is not my big concern, it's how the team is set up and organised. I think there's a few out there who could do a much better job on that.

  7. That u23 team that won the National League was very well coached by Lee albeit not at a first team level..

Hill makes a continual point about not having the players but the ones put out every week seem poorly organised.
