August 31, 200619 yr Bolton have ended their interest in signing Zenit St Petersburg defender Pavel Mares. The 30-year-old was tipped to move to The Reebok Stadium after manager Sam Allardyce confirmed talks were underway. Mares arrived in Bolton on Wednesday to discuss the switch and undergo a medical but The Trotters have now confirmed the Czech stopper will be returning to Russia. The player himself claimed a deal had already been agreed but it has now fallen through with just a matter of hours remaining until the transfer window closes. The news will come as a blow to Allardyce who had hoped for further arrivals before Thursday's deadlines passed.

It baffles me how people decide wether or not to buy season tickets dependant on who we sign!

It baffles me how people decide wether or not to buy season tickets dependant on who we sign! i know we are trying but with no success and as for you being baffled we have replaced some players with worse ones and the football last season was hardly edge of seat stuff now was it. season tickets are expensive but the club should improve the team im not sure they have done so

Love it if we managed to sign Danny Murphy tonight! he must be off somewhere as he aint gonna get in at Spurs now - perhaps we will sign him, but Mares was a full-back so are there any options for defenders? Or will Allardyce pull someone out of the bag that we've not thought of / heard of!
