I have an Accenta burglar alarm that was put in 11 years ago. It was wired onto the lighting circuit (I think) my reasoning for this deduction is that every time a bulb blows upstairs the alarm goes off.

Up to now I have turned the fused switch off, opened the panel, disconnected a battery terminal, reconnected and then re-set at the remote keypad.

 

The last time, however, it has failed to work.

I found out you are supposed to change the battery every 3 - 5 years. Mine is 11 years old . . . so I went out and bought a new one, thinking this would get me some brownie points with the wife.

 

The plan failed miserably! Even with a new battery I am unable to reset.

 

Any advice would be most appreciated.

I must admit, and I'm not proud to confess this, I saw that it was Smiley who posted the first reply and I thought, "Oh yes, this is going to be reeeeeally helpful!" But when I clicked on the link I decided that I mustn't pre-judge and he could actually have some helpful advice on how to fix the alarm.

 

Well, you know what they say about first impressions! I was right! :p

Reet, firstly who the frig are Accenta? Yale, Chubb, noo... fucking Accenta!

 

People who fit burglar alarms are robbing a living, get a decent set-up and fit it yourself. Oh and don't use wireless like I got conned into once, they are wank!

Turn the mains back on before you reconnect the battery lead.

 

Should go something like - switch the mains off, remove cover, remove one battery cable, turn mains back on, insert code, connect second battery terminal, refit cover then press reset if the tamper light is flashing.

 

Is the battery actually getting a charge?

 

Goes without saying be aware of the mains supply and I am not responsible for you melting your own alarm system nor indeed your good self.
