Here's one that also used to be on every 6 week holiday...

 

Historically, musically and visually there's no contest. Back in 1963 all tv opening titles were anodyne dross; their theme tunes were just as benign and even the Beatles were in pre-drugs sensible mode, blasting out happy pop.

On the tv you'd tune in to the cheery theme of "Dixon of Dock Green", to be greeted with a cheery "evening all".

The nearest thing to innovation came with the mournful "Coronation Street" theme and the slightly gritty exterior shots which accompanied it.

Then a new kids tv programme started; God alone knows how on earth the BBC's radiophonic workshop dreamt up the theme, let alone accomplished it and got away with it....
