May 3, 201016 yr Agreed, years ago Casa Brunos knocked everything else into a cocked hat. Bruno would go out of his way for you, birthdays, treats, anniversaries etc... I remember his 'party piece' coming out of the kitchen with a meat cleaver 'anyone got any complaints?' But it was a superb dining experience in every way, and most reasonable! I think he sold out to his nephew, and even though Mrs Cure said it was fantastic, to me it wasn't as fantastic as it used to be. Garlic bread too dry, no hand held kitchen implement death threats, no sparklers in the birthday cake and polaroids After that I haven't sampled it. Leo's is and always was a lively get together eatery kinda place, and Socrates is properly good, Stelios will come and eat with you at the table and explain everything from where the idea of the dishes came from and why, to what they put in them and why, and even ply the fat man in the party with ouzo until he thinks he's an extra from Zorba the Greek.......... Naming no names........ (and on plenty more than one occasion!) But yes, Horwich used to be and I'm sure still is the place in Bolton where you can eat more or less any country's finest food at a reasonable price and yet still have a big scrap with the locals about who spilled your pint afterwards. Aye, top fayre! Alternatively, if you can get behind the shutters at Aldi, you'll find all you can eat (though raw) at a very reasonable price, I.E. free to shoplifters.......
May 4, 201016 yr Totally agree with the above, used to go more or less every weekend to Brunos for years, it couldnt be beaten, and I've never had a better steak since. It was that good. I used to love it, he always walked out of the kitchen and do his "is everythinnk alrriiiite" to the customers, singing an italian song as he sauntered out. He did a bit of moonlighting at Portofinos a couple of years ago, but he was waitering! Last time I spoke to the chap who runs the restaurant there he told me he was cooking in an old folks home somewhere!!! If anyone finds out which home, let me know, as Im going to book a table. Even if all the grub is liquidised .
