I've got an EOS 600D, it's a belter, but it limits recordings to 4GB filesize, which is because of the format of memory it uses. So it stops recording after 10 mins. I reckons the new model, what I think is a 1000D automatically starts recording another clip again once it reaches 4GBs so you just end up with a load of clips, but you could record for a while, battery/card size permitting. I've always stuck with Canon, but some of these new super slim SLRs that are floating around take a pretty picture. Just watch the prices. Something like this maybe. You can't really go wrong with Canon, Nikon or even Sony these days. I'd tend to avoid Panasonic, and Casio, just because they make calculators. Don't worry too much about Pixel resolution, you'll likely never need to do anything with your pics that would warrant anything post 15 Megapixels. Unless you're printing on a 6' canvas. One more bit of advice is always go for a decent SD card, at least a class 6, but I'd get a class 10 just to make sure. The lower classes can't save footage quick enough for HD video, so you'll run into problems straight away. It's gotta be class 10 for my liking. Never had any problems.

I agree with CWP. If it was your phone out of contract you could ring the network and they will unlock it for you via a posh text message that does somethin' to it's gubbins.
