Burndens Bogs Posted July 7, 2006 Posted July 7, 2006 That England looked tired and jaded in this world cup?. Most of our players play in the high tempo of the premier league week in week out,but when you compare our fitness levels to Germany or Italy - we looked WAY off the pace. The only Englishman who looked anywhere near fit enough was Owen Hargreaves, probably because he trains in Germany. I still think we have a lot to learn when it comes to preparing our players for major tournaments
pike_mill_white Posted July 7, 2006 Posted July 7, 2006 Because the Prem and English football in general still has a drink culture no matter what the clubs and players tell you. How many on here have seen Bolton players pissed out of their heads during a season. When they finish boozing for the night it's down to Bolton Super Bar for a kebab and a large portion of chips! :-$
Carlos Posted July 7, 2006 Posted July 7, 2006 I think it's was a climate thing, it was really warm over there. We'd call it a heatwave, most countries call it summer. South African winter will suit us more.
Guest as Posted July 7, 2006 Posted July 7, 2006 Nowt to do with any of that shite, a international team with Peter Crouch and 3/4 half-fit players never had a chance in the WC. Simple as. Our squad was w*nk. Jermaine Jenas wouldn't get in the Wales team, and Walcott had only been seen on video by the manager? I blame Sven. PB
exiledwhite2 Posted July 7, 2006 Posted July 7, 2006 Lots of those players play in our league, so there is no excuse on the fitness front I personally believe that the weather went against us...and we were scheduled to play the second round and 1/4 final in the afternoon no matter what happened in the group I have no idea why they couldn't have kicked the early games off an hour later, would still have been a three hour gap until the next kick off
Burndens Bogs Posted July 7, 2006 Author Posted July 7, 2006 LOTS OF THOSE PLAYERS PLAY IN OUR LEAGUE, so there is no excuse on the fitness front Italy v Germany? Am i correct in thinking only Lehman plays in our league. And don't say Ballack FFS

Am i correct in thinking only Lehman plays in our league. And don't say Ballack FFS I just mean the Premier league supplied more players to the WC than any other... Gallas and Henry look OK to me for example...there is no way that our league produces tired or unfit players, that is a bollocks excuse IMO
jayjayoghani Posted July 7, 2006 Posted July 7, 2006 Seeing as our summer usually lasts about 10 mins, all our players will be used to playing in cold weather. We can't just convert to playing in hot weather - it takes years of conditioning. Despite being the outstanding women's marathon runner, Paula Radcliffe's body just gave out during the Athens marathon. As Carlos points out, we actually stand a far better chance fitness wise in South Africa. Temperatures will be much milder but because the days are very short (as it's mid-winter) the temperature will drop significantly for 6pm & 9pm games. Assuming of course they stick to 3pm, 6pm & 9pm games. Would have thought they will as I think it's CET in South Africa. But at the end of the day, this was just one factor in our defeat. Main ones being Eriksson and our "world class" players being anything but.
jayjayoghani Posted July 7, 2006 Posted July 7, 2006 Weather forecast for Johannesburg... minimum temperature -5??C! http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/5day.shtml?world=0082

Ani Posted July 7, 2006 Posted July 7, 2006 is it because we spent so long trying to get the ball back we have given away because we are playing a little un up front or a giant who can not control the ball. our midfiled is not as good as we think so gives the ball away and NONE of our defenders can distribute the ball as well as most of the top teams defenders
