GOAL SCORER

Featured Replies

Just a shame that they aren't offering each way odds. 3-1 on him being in our top 3 would be a great bet.

It's not looking to good at the moment with us looking for a 20 a season goal scorer, but surely we should go for milner ??3.5m and nugent ??3m, in a seasons time, there going to be worth double those price's as there only young and both have talent. Also Benni McCarthy, ??2.5m to blackburn what a bargain, he could have got 20 goals for us this season without a doubt. Thats 3 good players for ??9m which would have added a lot of quality and youth to the team. Anyone agree or would that be a waste of our transfer kitty?

What is it with this 20 goal a season striker? Why do we need this guy? Our system is built around goals coming from different positions, left wing, right wing centre forward and the oncoming central midfielder (in our case Kevin Nolan).

If we insist on playing 4-5-1/4-3-3 then Sam needs to be looking for a right/left wing player that can both supply and score goals. Yet we have that in Diouf and Stelios (though a quality signing would do wonders to give them the kick up the arse they need).

That said Nolan and Stelios gave us that 20 goals between them, and due to the system we play that is all that could be asked of them. If we pursue in getting this elusive 20 goal a season striker, were is he going to play? Centre forward/lone striker role? If we do find one and he does play this role, how is this natural goal scoring machine going to get twenty goals a season? Jay Jay has gone leaving erm, Speed, Campo and Nolan as the central midfield players that would take the ball and push forward in order to bring the opposition out and create room for our A.J type player to do his work?

I'm not having a go at our midfield as it stands, I breathed a sigh of relief when Campo signed. All I???m saying is that the best striker in the world couldn't score twenty goals a season without creative support from midfield, and the midfield we have left at the minute are not the very best at opening defences to help a quick striker to nip in and do his job.

4-4-2 being a solution?

It would be if we signed the quality fast striker that Sam is after. One question though, were would our left/right midfield come from? I mean this isn't the championship, Sam can't just stick Diouf and Stelios on the left and right of midfield and think everything will be ok, they are attacking forward thinking players, and not designed for that role (ok Fortune could play left midfield, once Gardner got himself fit). If Sam wants to sign this great twenty goal a season striker *cough* Borgetti *cough* then surely he must first look at the creative midfielder that will carry the ball forward to open up the opposition defence and give the guy room. Our central midfield (as good as they are) doesn???t strike me as being able to do that. Nolan is our most forward thinking midfielder, but his talent comes with finishing not creating.

Nolan and Stelios scored over twenty goals between them last season due to the system we played and that was without an all firing Diouf.

To summarise, we don't need a twenty goal a season striker, we have Kevin Davies, Diouf, Stelios, Borgetti, Vaz Te, Nolan.

Between them they can get us the goals we need. What we do need to spend what money we have is a quality creative midfielder to make things happen, before we find ourselves hoofing it up to Kevin Davies before our experienced midfield general, holding midfielders run their backsides off getting the bugger back, only to repeat the process.

I'd rather Sam spend the money were it is really needed, creation.

Vaz Te currently 12-1 to be our top scorer....

Davies, K 15/8

Giannakopoulos, S 9/2

Diouf, EH 5/1

Nolan, K 11/2

Pedersen, H 10/1

Vaz Te, R 12/1

Speed, G 33/1

Campo, I 100/1

Looks a pretty good bet to me. Unlikely to need too many be our top scorer after all!

Davies is a shit price at 15/8.

You'd want to be laying that bet all season long.

Holy shit. Couldnt be arsed reading the whole thing, but got the gist from the first two paragraphs and agree. A 20 goals a season striker is hard to come by and BWFC have not needed it in past seasons. Our style of play has led to 20+ goals being scored from midfield, so why change it. The squad still needs adding to, but lets keep playing to our strengths.
