WANDERERS' chairman Phil Gartside believes the record signing of Nicolas Anelka is the Club's commitment to Bolton boss Sam Allardyce.

 

After Allardyce missed out on the England Head Coach's role in the summer, Gartside was keen to show his commitment to the manager by putting in the additional resources to make the Club successful over a long period of time.

 

Gartside said:

 

"In spite of Sam's disappointment in missing out on the England job, he has underlined his commitment to the Club during the close season and is ready to be successful yet again this campaign.

 

"The signing of Nicolas is our commitment to Sam and is a reward for his efforts in taking the Club to the next level.

 

"Sam has told me what players he wants to bring in and it is my job to provide him with the necessary tools to be a successful side that can compete with the best teams in the Barclays Premiership.

 

"This is a momentous day in the Club's history. To bring in a player of Anelka's quality just shows our intent to be a successful club for the long-term.

 

"Our plans to be a consistent force for years to come are coming to fruition. We are in the process of building a new Academy facility and the Club has made a ??10m commitment to this project. We are continually looking at ways of improving the squad, but ultimately want to be in a position that we are nurturing our own youngsters through the Academy. We are already seeing this bear fruit and in the next five years more and more youngsters will get a chance here."

 

Gartside was quick to praise owner Eddie Davies, whose generosity has helped the Club build sustainable business and a squad envied in European football.

 

"Eddie Davies - the owner - is the man that is making things happen at the Club. His funding is enabling us to make an unprecedented investment to strengthen the squad this term.

 

"Eddie is a passionate supporter and is committed to raising the standards of the Club across all areas."

What's not to be satisfied with? 10 million isn't a huge amount in transfer market with inflated prices today, but it could pay major dividends if the academy does well at all.
