Bolton striker Nicolas Anelka admits he is some way off being in peak condition for Premiership action.

However, the Frenchman has conceded that it could be a couple of months before he is in perfect shape to perform at his best in The Premiership.

"I am glad to play in Bolton now, I just want to be on the pitch and try my best - it is quicker than Turkey but I think in a couple of months I will be ready with the English game," Anelka told Sky Sports News.

"I really don't know [what shape I am in], I will have to play some games first but hopefully I am good."

Anelka is well known for his goalscoring exploits in England and is often said to play his best in The Premiership.

The 27-year-old aims to better previous seasons to propel Bolton into Europe again this season.

"I will try to do that in Bolton and hopefully even better, I want to win a lot of games and finish in the top-five," he said

Monsieur Anelka is playing a canny game here.

Declaring himself a couple of months away from optimum fitness buys him a bit more time to settle in and start banging in the goals, rather than making promises he might struggle to keep in the early games.

though what kind of player who wants a move away from his current club doesnt train at all for 6 weeks thus starting for his new club in an unfit state

I thought he'd already played a number of games this season and was in peak fitness? He's had nearly 2 weeks at Bolton now - with the best backroom staff in the country.
