It looks like the Jussi / Al Habsi opinions are split down the middle.

I can see both views; Jussi has proven himself over many years, he is experienced & doesn't make many mistakes.

On the other hand Ali is still very inexpericenced at this level & whilst he looked good for a few games at the end of last season, he is far from the finished & proven article.

However..... looking at the bigger picture, cast your minds forward 3 years......

Jussi is past it, worthless on the transfer market & unlikely to be up to Premiership standards.

Ali, improving all the time (given the chance to shine by playing regularly), worth an increasingly significant amount on the the transfer market & possibly heading towards being one of the best keepers in the Prem. for many years to come.

You could pick holes in the above points but most (reasonable) Bolton fans would agree.

Now here's the important bit; If we don't get Ali in the team (very) soon (& I don't mean for 1 or 2 games) then come January there will be clubs queueing up for his signature & that will mean... bye bye Ali, bye bye quality keeper (for many years to come), and bye bye big transfer income. We will then, in all probability, need to spend big to replace Jussi!

Why wait till then? sacrifice Jussi now, bring Ali on, let him progress (& thereby get him to sign a new contract). Jussi will be good back-up AND, if Jussi get's pissed off (which is quite likely) then we could sell him in January, or May, for a million or two & re-invest it in a new No. 2 (Notwithstanding that Bogdan may well be pushing for a No. 2 place by then anyway).

If we carry on as we are Ali will go, for nothing, before the end of the season & we will be left with an ageing keeper that we cannot sell.... IT'S A NO BRAINER!

Does it not say something when Jussi was available on a free since Jan but no one wanted to sign him!!

Now they may be only rumours but several clubs seem to be sniffing round Al Habsi???

So agree with you Ziggy, and I guarentee we will see Jussi on his knees flapping at the ball like a kitten with a ball of wool as the ball hits the net exactly where his chest/face would have been if he hadn't decided to drop top the floor!!

And for what its worth AOB did lose Owen but once the ball goes over the centre half's head you would hope your keeper would be alert enough to help him out. We are not talking about the ball landing on the penalty spot yards from goal, it was inside the 6 yard box so in my mind Jussi should have come and cleared the ball and Owen. Worse than that even by staying on his line he still did not set himself correctly to make a save and ended up nscarmbling about on the floor rather than making a concerted effort to save the header.

So on that basis you'd be happy to get shut of Cahill and bring in Anton Ferdinand?

Good plan.

a good number of clubs 'sniffed' around the finn

he had offers (admittedly some were withdrawn/modified following his injury)

just didn't take them up, mainly cos he doesn't want to up sticks

as soon as we made him an offer, he signed

al habsi is good, but seemingly in the opinion of bwfc, not as good as jussi

so, al habsi either sets about proving them wrong, or he moves on

up to him

It's totally beyond me why our longest serving player and the player who cares most about this club get so much shit, regardless of what they do.

i'll repeat..

because he's long past his best..
