Charity Shield

At the risk of sounding thick - If the same team wins the FA and League cup then who plays?

shirts vs skins

The community shield is played for by the premier league winner and the FA cup winner. If they are the same team I think the FA cup runner up plays.

Yea that's what I meant

Went watching the charity shield match at Maine Rd with a mate in 73, Man City V Burnley, no idea why these two teams were in the final.

Double post.

Liverpool won the league, Sunderland the FA cup that season.

I'd presume that neither side could play the game as they were instead scheduled to play friendlies.

Burnley were prob asked to play as 2nd division champions. I'd hazard a guess Citeh were involved as holders.

It was the last time the game was not played at Wembley/Cardiff.

jeep - boring twat of the day.....

The second in the League plays.

I went to watch Bolton play Wolves in the Charity Shield in 1958 at Burnden. We won and If I remember rightly we had three different goalkeepers that night. Eddie Hopkinson had been picked for the England game the following Saturday and the FA refused to allow him to play. I think it was Joe Dean who started the game in goal but got injured in the first half. Nat then went in goal. At half time the Bolton management negotiated with the FA and Hopkinson turned out for the second half.
