Fundraising - Any More For Any More?

I am raising money for two charities by running the London Marathon this year. The charities are Great Ormond Street Hospital and Breakthrough Breast Cancer

It is the one and only time I will do a marathon and so I am looking to raise the maximum amount for these two organisations.

They are very personal to me as, firstly, my son was treated for a Congenital Heart defect at Great Ormond Street. Unfortunately he died during his second lot of surgery just before his third birthday.

Secondly, my Mum is currently undergoing chemotherapy following surgery, as she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer just before Christmas.

I would ask that people who want to, should donate to one or the other depending on which they sympathise most with. Or they could split the money over both

As I say, this is the one and only time I will do this, so make no excuses for asking you to support these worthy causes.

Can this be pinned please? Thanks

i'm lucky in that i've not lost any close relatives

losing a parent must be terrible, but losing your child doesn't bear thinking about

Cheers, what time are you looking for?

Hoping to get under 4 hours, 3rd time of trying for it. I expect to be more towards 4:15 with times i've been doing in training. Keep getting niggling injuries that set me back a week or 2, body doesn't heal as fast as when we were younger and too much :drinks:

How about you?

I'm working on a sub 3:45 schedule from Runners World. On track so far. Just done my 22 miler last weekend just over 3 hours.

Good luck fellas!!! Still an ambition of mine to do one.

Just under a week to go now and I'm getting nervous.

Imaginary pains in my legs and an almost psychotic reaction to anyone with a sniffle is turning me into a nervous wreck.

Just a reminder for all those who want to donate, but haven't yet, the links are below.

Would it help if I said the-wanderer website are outpacing you currently on donations by 4 to 1?

I know it's easy to get compassion fatigue in this day and age, so I thank those who have contributed so far, and those who have just taken the time to read.

Cheers

Sorry I missed this mate.Well, it's done.

Time 4:01:48 (damn)

Halfway was 1:47 but I developed a cramp at 19 miles I couldn't shake, so ran/ walked the remainder.

Thanks for the donations guys, very much appreciated by Great Ormond Street and Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

Off out soon for beer.

How about you?

Congrats but unlucky, always next year to dip under 4 hours!

I did 4 hours 19mins. Similar story, went through half way at 1:53 then started to slow around 18 mile mark. That's why it's the marathon though, legs are suffering now but had a few beers also to numb the pain.

Crowd was immense all the way round, especially those last few miles along the Embankment.

Well done. The crowds were amazing but it got squeezed at times which slowed the runners down a bit. The smells of the barbecues and food shops along Commercial Road nearly stopped me in my tracks too. Looking on the website I finished well into the top third of runners (you must have too)which makes me feel better. And yes, 24 hours on I am more convinced than ever I will go for it next year and smash that 4 hour marker.

I was in London this weekend in amongst the crowds as our maud's best mate was running it. Well, what an absolute fucking inspiration. I've done half marathons before but had never had any ambition to do a full one, but after that yesterday, where do I sign?

Saw a blind fella doing it with his arm linked to a mate, another bloke did it with a fridge on his back for fuck's sake. And if Eddie Izzard can do 45 in 48 days or whatever it was, then 90% of folk have got one in them.

Abso-fookin-lutely.

I started running three years ago from scratch. This is the Pinnacle so far and as you say, the sights you see inspire, delight, and horrify in equal measure.

One thing that DID piss me off though was the amount of runners talking on their mobiles whilst running! CAN'T IT WAIT?
