September 29, 201312 yr Reet, spent after a night wanking and falling asleep a laptop fell from it's perch and broke (I tripped over the lead...) where the DC Connector attaches to the board has cracked and it won't charge, Anyway, some bellend decided to open it up and the screws subsequently changed colour so the warranty is kaput. Can anyone recommend somewhere decent, preferably cheap and local who can fix it, or would it be do-able mesen if I got the part online? It's a Lenovo Ideapa model no. z580 BTW. September 29, 201312 yr Easy if you can solder. DC ports are soldered to the board. I cant solder but the part is cheap as chips.
September 29, 201312 yr Go into a maplins where you get the part for a couple if quid, then ask the geeks if they know somebody who can do it for you.
September 29, 201312 yr Author Ta, but... Aren't Maplin staff obliged to try and pimp their 'offical' computer repair services? Like Barry, I can't solder properly either, but I'm too tight to pay seventy to a hundred quid to someone (who's maginally less of a m0ng than me) to do it on my behalf... Had anyone actually had a laptop fixed by someone who doesn't come up with a quote from thin air (without even seeing the laptop or even real details of the problem)?
