I'd put Santos up front at the tip of a diamond formation with Dion at the back for his chasing down skills.

We can keep our little ditty for Ian Evatt doing that too.

I'd have Baxter taking corners. The deadballs he was playing to Gilks during the warm-up on Saturday were fucking incredible in terms of accuracy. Half the length of the pitch, and he was putting them on Gilks' toe every single time. It's amazing what you notice when you're there with kids who want to watch the players warm up, rather than being stood on the concourse having a beer and a good time.

Mad that in Spain they do not use ball line technology. Barca had a claim in last night El Classico , we even have that in League 1 do nt we ?

No. Ball line technology is only used for the duration of the season in the Premier League and Championship. League 1 and 2 only use it in the play-offs.

I understand why Gideon Falter was stopped

But the police officer stated his being "openly Jewish" as one of the reasons

And, for what it's worth, both @kent_white and @gonzo agree with that

    They might even be right

I agree his words were poorly chosen. But that doesn't prove ANY "openly Jewish" person would be treated in the same way. Unless all "openly Jewish" people drive around in vans with massive LED screens on the back, accompanied by a cameraman.

The Met can't act on that basis, though

And if the simple matter of a person looking Jewish - whether it's Gideon Falter or any other Jewish person - is likely to cause a breach of the peace, questions need to be asked about whether the marches should be allowed to continue

There's claims on here that the idea Jewish people can't go to central London on a weekend because of th marches is a nonsense, and also that being visibly Jewish at a pro-Palestinian march is provocative

    It can't be both

As always, it's a bit more nuanced than that. If a "visibly Jewish" person was just going about their normal business - popping to the shops or going for a meal or whatever, I doubt the police would have had any concerns at all. That clearly wasn't the case here. He was there to provocate and engage with the marchers, in the hope of filming some sort of negative interaction. That's basically his job. The police have prevented him from doing that, and one of them used some clumsy words, so now they have become the subject of his "story".

    Anyone remember Phyllis?

Always used to be on our train back from match as she lived Chorley way.

Never missed a match, a regular on away coaches when my Dad ran em in 70s.

Your elephant memory is ridiculous. I was on that train for years, and the only thing I remember about those times is the "I AM SPARTACUS" incident.

  6. 8 minutes ago, Lt. Aldo Raine said:

By simply stating he wasn't allowing Gideon Falter across the road because it's his belief he intended to be provocative and that may result in a breach of the peace

I'm surprised you of all people on here can't comprehend that

I get it. The Officer was clumsy with his words. If that's what all this is about, then fair enough. But it seems some are extrapolating that and concluding that this proves something far more sinister is going on.

  7. 1 minute ago, Lt. Aldo Raine said:

    That's missing the point, though

It's the suggestion that being openly Jewish is itself a provocation that's caused such a stir

How should the Officer have dealt with it? What words should he have used?

Aye yeah the fella looked like he was just bobbing down to Tesco for a few bits for his dinner minding his own business ffs :D

He was just popping to Spar for a couple of cans. Normally, he'd drive there in his van with massive electronic screens on the side, but it must have been in the garage that day.

  9. This really seems like a paralllel Universe. People complaining that under the Labour Government, booking an appointment with your GP was far too efficient.

The point many Jews are making is that these utterly pointless marches are happening every weekend, often with little notice to the routes. This is preventing certain folk being unable to go and do what they want.

No I didn’t claim that. Thats you lying. If you wanted to know what his days iteneary was (fkin weirdo) then tweet him, like I suggested earlier.

So you weren't referring to the Gideon Falter incident, in a conversation about the Gideon Falter incident? Which incidents were you referring to?

  11. 6 minutes ago, royal white said:

Because you asked silly questions like “what was that guys plans for the day”  so yes I’ve no idea. I’m guessing you had no idea, kind of like you had no idea who that March was that you posted, but instead of saying you didn’t know you choose to ignore the question.

You claimed he was disrupted from doing what he wanted to do that day. When asked "Why, what did he want to do?" you admitted you have no idea. Maybe he wanted to be filmed being told to move away by the police?

  12. 12 minutes ago, royal white said:

And you’re asking a question because you don’t know. Dont worry about it, it’s normal. Though normality is something I guess you’re not familiar with.

The difference is - you make a statement, then when someone questions it, your response is basically "I have no idea what I'm talking about". I'm not making any claims, I've just asked someone a question. I'm sure TMGJ can speak for himself, although it is cute that you feel the need to jump to his defence before he can even get a word out.

  13. Only just seen how close it was. What an absolute fucking joke. VAR is taking far more away from the game than it's giving, by a long way. A story that Coventry fans would have told their grandkids in 50 years time doesn't happen now. It's deleted from history because someone in a little booth nowhere near the pitch used a computer to determine someone's boot made them offside by an inch. If the football authorities think pixel-perfect decisions are what the fans really want, they might as well just get the managers of each team to have a game of FIFA.

    Two different themes here.

Firstly, yes, the lad ought to be able to be there, but we all know the world doesn't necessarily work like that.

Whether it be a football game, or some similar event where two opposing views could potentially clash.

Officer has to work the situation.

Secondly, there does seem to be a different approach to how these marches are policed with regards to what actions are permissable by the marchers. Other such groups wouldn't get an apparent free pass to behave like that and that is why there are accusations of two tier policing.

Perhaps if those in attendance were held to the same levels as others then folk like this fella wouldn't feel the need to go out and make their point.

What actions have been deemed permissable at these marches, that aren't allowed at other marches?

Am I going mad or something - they're only 3 points behind with a game in hand - they beat us next week then a draw mid week is enough to go above us. Basically if we lose next week it's pretty unlikely we stay 3rd.

They play Tuesday, so if they win that they'll be level with us when we play them.

See I'm not sure if VAR is the issue or the offside rule is

I think it's shite that the rule is that a cm of boot ahead means offside

But if that's the rule then VAR has to double check everything because you can't expect the linesman to get it right every time if at all

In which case it's not about clear and obvious, it's just about checking everything

    Which is shite

I'm sure people used to talk about there having to be 'daylight' between the defender and attacker in order for it to be deemed offside. Maybe the rule changed at some point, but it's more likely I was misunderstanding it. I didn't even know about the "goalkeeper+defender" OR "2 defenders" part of it until an incident last year when a defender was clearly playing someone onside, but the goalkeeper was miles out of his box, so it was disallowed anyway. Can't remember what match it was.

I’ve no idea. Maybe you could tweet him and ask.

That's several times in the last couple of days your answer has been "I've no idea". Bit odd to keep commenting on things you admit you know nothing about. Have you thought of doing something more productive with your sad life?

Why, what did Gideon Falter want to do that day? Seems strange he brought a cameraman along with him if he was just out shopping.

Not sure who that lot are, but Of course. However it’s good to see these lot don’t turn out every weekend.

How do you know they don't turn out every weekend if you don't know who they are?

Life would be so much easier for the police and the people affected by these marches if the thundercunts just decided to stay at home and do something productive with their sad lives.

I assume you'd say the same about this lot?

True but they’d have to win it well but yes, possible. 🙂

If they only win their game in hand 1-0, then beat us 1-0, they go above us.
