Millwall are still historically the 5th best home team in English football since 1920; so a point isn't too bad. Did that help cheer you up? No. Thought not. Fair result overall, but you must be kicking yourselves with that penalty miss at 0-1.

This does mean we get to cause £100k worth of damage to the Reebok next season, without Bolton moaning! And your press officer saying 'it's a fair cop'.
-
Ha. Indeed. On his debut the Millwall fans started singing 'DJ what's the score? DJ, DJ what's the score?' after a few minutes. He looked a bit sheepish. But he has said that we will win on Saturday....

Charlton's new owner has sold the spine of their team - the keeper, Stephens the creative midfielder, and Kermogant the focal point of their game plan & target man...and replaced them with young, inexperienced players from his stable of European clubs. They've brought in two strikers - one an Iranian & the other a Pole who's only played in the Dutch 2nd tier, and the new keeper is a bit of a clown (their words). You never know, it could work. But a very risk gamble midway through the season. I think once Holloway finally gets a settled side (he's brought in 5 new players; Williams from MK Dons, Upson from Yeovil, DJ Campbell, Simeon Jackson and Fredericks from Spurs) and we restore some confidence after the ordeal of Lomas we should pull clear just. I can't see Charlton having enough to overhaul Bolton.

Thing is with Trotter he isn't shit. Just very lazy; or languid if they're foreign. He could be a top Championship / lower Prem player if you gave him the dedication and heart of Stuart Pearce say. He'll have a storming game every now and then...if the weather is right, the grass is green and the oppos midfielder stand off him. I was under the impression you'd agreed a fee and we operate a no returns policy on players like Trotter.

I've seen Millwall relegated twice having been top at Christmas, once from the top flight in 1990, and then from what is now the Championship in 1996...where the only time we were in the bottom three was in injury time of the last game of the season on goal difference after Portsmouth scored a late winner up at Huddersfield. Oh, how we laughed. This has been not help whatsoever, but for what's it's worth I think it's Yeovil, Barnsley and then between us & Charlton.
-
To be fair that's a nice touch from him. Everton stayed there once. Oh.
-
We didn't rate him either, he was behind Horne and Kasey Keller. But, I don't know, he was just likeable.
-
I like Bolton Wanderers. The name is somehow quirky, yet working class. It's a tough town. I loved the team of the mid 90s - especially the Cup run. And on New Year's Eve in 1999 I met a very friendly Boltonian girl, who dragged me to her bar's work party so she could make me speak in front of everyone, whole they did Only Fools & Horses and Eastender impressions. I made her scream 'oh, Riiiicccckeeey' just after midnight!

To be fair Casino that pub would have been the wrong pub for a lot of people to wander into - football fan or not. I once saw it empty to attack the pikey camp near the station. Plus I can say now, as it's closed, but they used to have a sorn off shotgun under the bar! But come on, yeah, we are c@@ts, but Palace?! They're anti football...supported by people who'd rather be playing tennis, if only it wasn't always raining. Besides..we gifted you Rioch, McGinley and Davidson! You gotta be thankful for that?
-
Yep, that was the Barnaby. Nice little pub. Now apartments sadly.
-
On a real serious note; I can see why Casino has taken against us...I I hate all Arsenal fans simply because of Piers Morgan. Human nature. Did the daughter have access to a knife or was it a metaphorical threat...ie he meant he'd lend you his daughter's train ticket & then she'd scream 'that man has a child's ticket...stop him'...as you were lead away her & her father were laughing?
-
Fair point. It's why I prefer White people to black people...as I've never been mugged by knife point by a White person. Oh hang on...that sounds like a completely daft opinion to form about a whole group of people based on an one off incident involving an individual...also it's a bit racist too. On serious note though, it's your opinion and I guess I've got to respect it. I will inform the Millwall PR team we've lost another popularity vote to those Palace scamps, who only beat up Charlton supporting women on trains...whoops, now I've done it to!

Don't do it, palace are bunch of freaks. Football atmospheres should be organic, not choreographed by a bunch of 6th Form virgins with banners and a drum. As for cockney rent boys...rent boys yes; cockney no. In fact I wouldn't even class them as a proper London club out in Croydon. More a suburban overspill club, that's why their main rivals are Brighton...can't be getting all nasty in New Cross can they. We find lots of cocaine and alcohol combined with lacklusture stewarding lends itself to a good atmosphere..just don't bump into people!
-
Of course we do COYW...wouldn't be Millwall without it!
-
That's a bit of a faux pa. The Krays were massive rivals to the much more sinister, long lived and more secretive Richardson gang of southeast London. Understandable misconception tho.

I think 80% of Wall fans would have driven Liam to Bolton themselves. That's not to say he isn't a good player, he is. But he was never what we'd call a Millwall type player..he had an ability to appear to be strolling most games & the amount of tackles he bottled just wasn't acceptable for a Millwall midfielder (we are still in the 1980s when It comes to how we like our football). And no amount of killer balls or well taken goals ever changed that. I think the fans will be whipped up enough...what with a win meaning we go above you and 6 points clear of Charlton who don't play. A loss would put us right in it! My belief is we'll try and start very fast (as we have under Holloway at home) and he doesn't mind chucking men forward...if we get an early goal we should hopefully keep up our relatively good home record (for a struggling side)...if Bolton hold firm and ride it up I think our poor confidence will come into play and you wouldn't bet against Bolton nicking it.

I'm 34. The only thing I'd say is that once upon a time trouble used to find you, nowadays you have to find trouble. Our firm are still going strong, as you are probably aware from the big offs that made the news v West Ham, Hull City, Huddersfield etc in recent years...but like I said the days of rushing away fans outside the turnstiles have been killed by CCTV, Coward's Way and ott prison sentences for just giving someone a menacing look. In fact the more spontaneous form of trouble has been exported on the road..Sheffield Wednesday last season for example. Whereby the local SYP didn't expect 1,800 Millwall fans to turn up, containing about 500-600 hooligans...and the lack of intel and whole big city to scamper around resulted in a lot of spontaneous violence, plus a pre arranged meet with Sheffield United hooligans. At The Den that kind of spontaneous violence has all but vanished for the reasons given. Maybe if you beat us in the last minute in controversial circumstances trouble would break out (as happened with Wednesday a few years back) or thrashed us and went about goading us (as Palace did once, and soon regretted it)...but even so, the Met are well versed now. One thing us Millwall fans have never understood is why other clubs sell-out their big grudge matches, where there is likely to be bother, but avoid what I think is a decent away day (central London, good pubs, usually decent atmosphere) in Millwall, because of trouble. For the average Bolton fan I'm sure it's far worse going to Burnley, Blackburn etc than little old Millwall. Bermondsey only turns into the wild west when the likes of West Ham, Chelsea, Spurs, Arsenal, Man United, City, Liverpool, Everton, Leeds, Villa, Cardiff are in town, or if it's a massive match like we had with Wolves one Friday night, or a play off game. Look through all of Millwall's notorious past and you'll never see the headline 'Trouble at Millwall after mid table game with Norwich City'.
-
Thanks to over sensationalism by the mass media and our historical roots many away fans misunderstand the dangers (or not) of Millwall away in the 21st century. Back when Bermondsey, New Cross etc were close knit comuntities of dockers then a northerner or any outsider probably would have come a cropper, probably in the same way as if I walked in to a working man's club in Bolton in 1962 asking for a G&T and make it snappy. Nowadays, while some of the old pockets of the traditional communtities still hang in there (why our crowds have gone from 30-40,000 in the 1950s to 9-14,000 now) the area is cosmopolitan and tranisent enough for anybody to pop into most pubs without raising an eyebrow on a weekend. I'd probably avoid most on a Friday night if I wasn't local, but again...I'm sure that would apply to most back street Bolton pubs. I digress...as for the hooligans, due to CCTV, heavy sentences etc our lot are only interested in arranged meets these days. Gone are the days of rushing away fans getting off the train etc. If you are not in a large group and bringing attention to yourself you'll be fine in most pubs. I'd say New Cross if where you are most likely to be able to relax and mix freely in pubs, maybe even with a Bolyon top on, as that's an area where all sorts of people live. The Blue, Bermondsey is still a bit more local...but as said, this is inner city London, anyone and everyone lives here now...in fact I'd imagine most would welcome an outsider, and a northern one to boot, trying a pie and mash and having a pint. The best reason to try it is the fact that drinks in Bermondsey are about £1-2 less than around London Bridge...pity the docks aren't still open, my granddad tells me that so much was stolen off the ships that Bermondsey was the only place outside of Liverpool where poor people ate grapes, oranges, bananas in the 1930-60s and washed it down with practicularly free rum!

Sadly closed - after one too many drug raids & the outside being pebble dashed with bullets!

Millwall fan here. Massive game now on Saturday, after tonight's results for our respective teams. Holloway started with 4 strikers tonight & is clearly mental, & I don't expect that to change Saturday! As you now know South Bermondsey overground station is closed. However, I've never understood why most sane away (& home) fans go that way anyway. Yes, it's the quickest route from London Bridge to the ground (3 mins and a walkway), but the train is always crowded and it doesn't allow you to feel the build up to a game, ie no walking with crowds to the ground, passing hot dog stalls, programme sellers, pubs etc. Therefore you could see this as an opportunity, and enforced bump out of what's easy... I think the best route is take the Jubilee Line to Bermondsey and walk from there, maybe through the Blue. You could stop for a Pie & Mash, and a pint or two in some genuine old (non tourist) London boozers. The Blue Anchor is a good little pub, or the Ancient Forresters is on the way to the ground (a 10/15 minute walk depending on your pace) on the corner Galleywall Road - local to famous London criminal Freddie Foreman and his family (who still drink there, including his actor son Jamie). Many bank robberies have been planned in that pub, so a bit of SE London history. Pretty straight forward if you look on Google Maps. As others have said, Surrey Quays (or Docks if you are a proper local) is a similar distance, and there's some good pubs around there too, plus a big Weatherspoons (altho that gets full of not hooligans, but lairy Millwall yoof). Again, easy route on Google Maps - plus a small detour can take you to the Ancient Forresters. There's a short cut through the Silwood Estate (keep your wits about), but that might be shut too. New Cross or New Cross Gate is another option. Some decent little London boozers around there, even a studenty one near Goldsmiths (the Marques of Granby), that has an interesting mix of Millwall fans, musicians and local art students. Bit more of a walk, but not by much & you get to go down Cold Blow Lane and through it's tunnel for a nostalgic Millwall experience. Of course, I'd recommend not wearing Bolton stuff in these places or loudly moaning about southern piss when drinking your pint; not that the hooligans would take much notice, but there's always a lairy prat around that might take exception, especially when backed up by a few mates. And to be fair, being obnoxious probably deserves a slap. There is also the 'tourist option'...drink around London Bridge and bus it / taxi it in. If you're are driving google Folkestone Gardens and head there for best place to park. Try and park outside a house; there's no restrictions etc, and about 5 minute walk to ground - follow fans coming from New Cross / Deptford / Surrey Quays heading west. Hope I've been of some help.
