I don’t think you can blame Santos when he has Johnson playing alongside him. In the second half we were playing with three centre backs and still let in three goals.

Tonight was not just a “one off” performance it comes hard on the heels of abject displays against Plymouth and Wigan. Isgrove is quite clearly not a right back and if he played there, then that is where you must judge him. Remember he gave a penalty away tonight. Whether it is Evatt’ mistake in picking him there or whatever, he is clearly not up to standard as a full back. Amongst the other problems we have is that with Comley and Sarcevic gone we have only four possible midfielders - Williams, Lee, Thomason and Sheehan. With Williams and Sheehan injured we have no one to fill in so have to bring players on in other positions.

Isgrove was taken apart tonight whether he is right back or not. He also lost the ball numerous times when going forward.Johnson has no presence in defence, he is particularly weak in the air and his errant passing gave away one goal tonight and his lack of presence another. Declan John seemed incapable of getting the ball forward and lost the ball on numerous occasions. Delfonso is, well Delfonso but he is one of our subs so what does that say about our squad. However good you think these players are we were murdered by a more skilful determined team from two leagues lower and at least four or five of them would walk into Bolton’s squad.

I have supported Bolton for over 65 years. Never have a seen such an inept , heartless performance so lacking in skill, that I have seen tonight. Stockport played us off the park and fully deserved their win. We even seem incapable of taking a throw in to one of our own players. Our lack of quality both on and off the pitch is painfully obvious. Several of the players on show tonight should not be playing at League one level, particularly Johnson, Isgrove, John, and Delfonso.

Completely brainless.

The game is crying out for a creative midfielder who can actually bring our forwards into play. They get no support at all.

Thommo has the same “ head stooped” demeanour as a great Bolton legend Freddie Hill. If he turns out half as good as Freddie we’ll have some player on our hands
