January 21, 200521 yr Absolute top drawer! Great 5 days. Match swung one way and then the other. Last day was unbelievable. Could have gone 4 ways. Draw. Win SA. Win England or just stopped for bad light. At lunch it was nearly pitch black and rain was starting to fall. I went for a pint and thought that we had seen the last of the game. Then the sun came out, along with Hoggie and what transpired in the last 2 sessions was unbelievable. Even with 9 overs left, Smith and Steyn looked like they could pull off an amazing feat by claiming a draw. Then Hoggie came back on and took the last wicket. Met him in a restaurant later and had my photo took with him. Cannot repeat the abuse he gave me for being a Lancashire lad! All in good spirit though. Not sure how bad Ashley Giles injury was - but he was able to take a good photo of us, whilst Geraint Jones and Paul Collingwood looked on. Vaughan and Trescothick also came into the restaurant with their wives.
January 21, 200521 yr And Kevin Whately form Auf Wiedersehn Pet! He looked like your typical colonial tourist. Alan Donald walked past us one morning - scowling, so avoided him. Bumped into Paul Allot and Bob Willis after day one's play - asked for a photo with them, Willis said "yeah, but you will have to keep up with us" and then promptly walked off. pussy! He got slagged off by quite a few folk near me for that. Arrogant tosser. Also had my piccy taken with Sylvester and the Pink Panther - both Sheffield Utd fans.
January 21, 200521 yr Also had my piccy taken with Sylvester and the Pink Panther - both Sheffield Utd fans. Did you ask why the suits? Are they scared of being seen by the boss while on the sick? [-X Can The Pink panther really drink through his eye?
January 21, 200521 yr They are re-running the test match now on Sky Sports 2. Just onto the second days play. I had my flag on the 3rd, 4th & 5th days, so look out for it.
January 21, 200521 yr smiley, since you are a massive cricket fan, why dont you sponsor a game at horwich this season? advertising on the website and loadsa stella on the day pm me if interested.
January 23, 200521 yr Astley Bridge CC is in my veins mate!! Watched my dad play for them all over the Bolton league. Never took up the game myself. Not a big fan of cricket! Just an interested observer. Think its a cracking game, good atmosphere, etc, but not obsessed by it. Think I remember Mudasser playing for Horwich? And you had that bloke at your club who was about 7ft tall? Don't think he played cricket though.
January 23, 200521 yr So smiles would you recommend going to see a test abroad ! Is the barmy army as good as they look on tv e.g atmosphere, banter etc !!!!!!!!!
January 23, 200521 yr would recommend it. good atmosphere and a great experience. barmy army were at opposite side of the ground from us. i imagine if I had been with a larger group of lads we might have joined up with them. however, a few diehards are getting a little frustrated with the BA - becoming too commercialised. Rumour had it they made around ??400 per person from the test in Joburg. I know for sure that I could get flights, accom and match tickest nearly ??500 cheaper than they were offering. However, its all about whether or not you wanna join in with a large crowd. They had organised evenings, BBQ, nights with ex-players speaking, etc. I would really like to travel with a larger contingent of lads - possibly a posse from off here. Think that would be something very worthwhile. spoke with Brixton today - talk of a trip to the MCG in 2 years.
January 23, 200521 yr Gibbs gone for 98. What's the light doing anyone? The living room bigl lights flickering could be a powercut in the offing might be cheap aldi bulbs!!!!!!!!!!!!!
