February 6, 200521 yr Easiest way is to get a Router. The Router connects you to the internet and then both of your PC's connect to the Router. Obviously it is a bit more complicated than that, but not too much. What kind of Internet connection do you have? ADSL/Cable etc
February 7, 200521 yr Author I'm on ADSL and I don't want loads of cables running round the house linking the PC's.
February 7, 200521 yr ADSL router, wireless network cards. http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/in...t_uid=39&stid=8
February 7, 200521 yr Yes, EG is your girl for this, having actually done the job. I am still running a wire round the back of the settee
February 12, 200521 yr Author So I need one wireless router. How many of these network card things do I need and what do I do with them?
February 12, 200521 yr So I need one wireless router. How many of these network card things do I need and what do I do with them? You'll need one of these or similar http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/in...oduct_uid=45622 for every desktop PC you've got and a card for each laptop. You need to check you've got a spare PCI slot on the desktop and a free card slot on the laptops. If you haven't, one of these should do the trick providing you've got a spare USB slot http://www.buynetgear.com/product.asp?sku=2584120 Plug it/them in and away you go (the things do have instructions with them)
February 12, 200521 yr You need one network card per computer you would like to have access. I believe then it is relatively easy to set up. Apparently windows XP recognises the presence of a router and does the rest. If on an older version of windows you may need to get all the computers connect them using cables so they can recognise each other, then after that it should be ok. Disclaimer: This is what i've been told anyway.
February 13, 200521 yr Can't see why not, I'll tell you when I get my new laptop which will be XP (currently 2000 round here).
If so, what's the easiest way of doing it?
Thanks,
