I think someone actually went to St. Petersburg for a wedding, but I can't remember who it was.

that same person has also been to Seville.

I went to Moscow last year. Visas are a pain to get. You have to get an 'invitation' from your hotel / tour operator and then apply to the Moscow consulate in London for the visa. Our visas came through within a couple of weeks , but I know they can sometimes take a while to process sometimes. I am not sure if there are different rules for football fans.

 

Russia is a good place to visit, but the police are very paranoid because of Chechyna. St. Petersberg will be more geared up to tourists than most parts of Russia I expect. And yes, the beer is dead cheap. Most of the locals can't afford to drink in bars and tend to drink vodka and cans of beer on the street which is slightly odd.

 

One interesting way (if you are feeling brave) to get to St. Petersberg would be to fly to Helsinki on a budget airline and then get the train to St. Petersberg.

Been to Moscow twice now. It is a pain getting visas sorted but there are plenty agencies that specialise in processing Russain visas quickly.

There may be completely different rules for organised travelling football fans though. One piece of advise, dont bother with local currency. Use US dollars.

I'm pissed of we're at home to them, fancied that trip - especially as I could have blagged it for nowt!
