By the eighties the ob had wisened up a lot,segregation,fences,increased prescence etc A lot of lads who started going to Burnden in the 70's,were still going in the 80's,90's etc.......... They just got a bit thicker round the waist
January 27, 200620 yr Tell yer what Northy, we had one of the toughest firms around in the early 70's. No doubt a number of you will remember regular mayhem against Sheff U, Leicester, Brum, Derby and Hull? One of the lads I knew from my home street in Tonge Moor (Tintern Avenue) was done for tw*tting a Leics fan with a half house brick whilst on a stretcher being carried by two St. Johns after being stabbed! Any of you remember a particular match v. Hull when 6 Lever Enders cleared a couple of hundred Hull fans out of the Lever End about an hour before the game? I can name all 6 (but won't for obvious reasons). A few years later one died of leukemia (RIP mate - never forgotten); one became a top helicopter pilot for the Navy; one is a sports reporter with a newspaper; one runs a bearing suppliers in the Bolton area; ones a big wheel in the printing business and one moved to Perth. Great days. Football too sanitised now.

The few jackburn who travelled back in those days tried to make themselves inconspicuous but were often found and set upon by packs of marauding young boot boys eager to christen their shiny 8 hole docs.

If wed have beaten Wolves we would have been promoted, Ray Train missed a few sitters ans we did everything bar score.Beer swiller game I missed as I was in Salford at attendance school (remember that anyone?) had to be there between 2pm and 4pm every Saturday afternoon for 6 months. By the time I???d finished my stretch I had a 6 pack stomach that arnie would be proud of. caught the number 8 back into town and as it approached burnden at 4:50pm I could see two huge mobs fronting each other across the car park at the embankment. Jumped off outside the post office but wolves had too many for us that day

The only risk was eviction from the ground. The sight was something to behold in the early 70's. 1976 saw the first clampdowns, by 78 having earned my 4th conviction i was on 12 months probation and one more away from nick so I started playing on saturdays...football in the afternoon and girls at night. Oh happy days! Never was involved in the 80's apart from watching others from the mannie rd north.... left that to the yoof!!! O:)
January 27, 200620 yr By the time the eighties came,all the young mullet heads were herded like cattle in a police escort at every away game,searched on entry to the ground,penned into a cage at the ground,and prevented from invading the pitch by a 10 ft fence, held in the ground for 20 mins after the game,then herded back to the trains/coaches. EVERYONE was treated as a criminal in those days.

Oh happy days! one i`ll alway`s remember - full train of about 500 arriving in blackburn early morning no police waiting so all marched through there market looting and pillaging anybody who inervened got there stall tipped over - used to have a picture of it from some b/burn rag
