Wasnt the lack of ambition shown in his signing in the first place? Big Sam must have been aware that FF was not even a squad player and was just hoping he had improved in all areas, hence the small contract offered.

 

Names previously mentioned (Brown, the lad from Marseille, Quasey, Sinaman Pong...Thompson, Hartson) are at worst squad players for the next few years???

FF was brought in as a typical out-of-sorts Allardyce signing. Once Sam realised he wasn't going to be up to Prem standard, he lets him go.

 

Good business in my eyes: he won't have been on much money, so it's a fairly risk-free gamble that could have netted us a decent player. It didn't, so Sam moves onto his next small gamble: Oscar Perez.

 

Some fans want us to spend big, just for the sake of it: to make us look like a big club. Leeds did it and now Portsmouth are doing it. Leeds are in the Fizzy Pop League and Portsmouth are going there. Anybody see a pattern forming?

 

If the players available aren't good enough, there's no point buying anything.

 

Last week I went shopping for a new shirt, I didn't see any I liked, so I didn't buy anything. To buy something that wasn't really what I was after would have been money wasted: this, I feel, is Sam's attitude to the transfer market.

i guess players broadly fall into two types

 

ones who want the money

 

and ones who want to play

 

the ones who want to play, need to be playing to be happy, but are probably not good enough to get picked, bearing in mind how good we are, OR WE CAN'T AFFORD THEM

 

the ones who want the money, we don't want, or CAN'T AFFORD

 

simplistic i know, but i'd argue not far from the truth

 

we've gone down the road of quality over quantity and are currently stretched

I personnally thought at the start of the season, we would see quality player after quality player arrive at the club due to UEFA cup status, however I didnt take in to account that we are looking at a different quality of player all of a sudden (to better the squad), so they obviously want more money.

 

I suppose we have to realise that unless we get a "sugar daddy" to fund the club, we may have reached as far as we can go.

 

FF would have been a quality signing and a first team player 2 years ago. The team have moved on so far that he is not even able to hold down a squad place.

 

If we are only bringing in players that will improve the squad, then we have to pay that money, but is the club in a position to do this? I guess not, even with success we are only looking at a further 3000 fans max per match (per season - ??1.7m, not even enough to pay the signing on fee of the players we are now looking at!!)
