They reprinted a few pages from the Mail of Wed. April 21, 1926, which was of course, 3 days before we won the cup for the second time in three years.
On the front page they listed the preparations:
"Provisions for the 91,000 spectators include;
50,000 bottles of beer
1,500 bottles of whisky
30 tons of minerals
7000lbs of tea
25,000 ham rolls and meat pies
12,000 packets of biscuits
120,000 cigarettes
10,000 boxes of matches
50,000 grams of cocaine
2,000lbs of cake
2 van loads of chocolate"
91,000 - bet we took some away support that day, although the captain did say to the paper that "his team stood a grand chance of winning the trophy.....They were all prepared for a hard tussle full of fine, healthy football, and no one would be prouder of Bolton and its clever (???) football team than he would be if the Cup were again brought to the town".
Bet no-one from the Mail would call Bolton a 'clever' team now, and i can't really remember the last time we had a 'grand' chance of winning much.
My ex's gran bought her first season ticket that year, apparently, when she was 8, and had one till she was 88. Not a bad effort that. She didn't get to the 1926 cup final tho, slacker!!
