The former Blackburn Rovers and Bolton Wanderers player was voted The MetroStars Most Valuable Player in his first Major League Soccer season last year.
But the 38-year-old has announced, on French television station Canal+, that he will finally call time on a glittering career.
He won the World Cup with Les Bleus in 1998 and the European Championship in 2000.
