incredible but the wife voted because of this. madness. they could have had policies about eating children - but she wants her bin emptying weekly (cue the mass abuse!!!)

i have faithfully stuck to the recycling agenda. but i am struggling with it. that stupid poxy green box you get for plastic/glass/foil etc was useless. i now have 3 of them, which is just enough for 2 weeks worth of stuff. its a pain having them in the back garden, i dont want my kids putting their hands in a box of glass and opened cans, leaving them in the back street for collection means they get messed about with and there is a usual trail of rubbish strewn over the backstreet, plus idiotic young fools who think its fun to throw glass bottles etc.

im going to ask them for a wheelie bin instead of those stupid boxes.

all veg/fuit and garden waste goes faithfully into the green wheelie bin, but thats only needed to be emptied once since i got it months ago. i gave up on the paper thing after it wasnt collected for a while and there were papers strewn all over the backstreet ( usually soggy from our great english weather). ive taken to shredding it all and putting it in the garden waste bin as it can be composted safely,along with egg boxes etc.

i crush all my rubbish now in an effort to make my wheelie bin contain 2 weeks worth or general household rubbish, and despite recycling as much as i possibly can i still cannot cope with my bin being emptied once a fortnight and have had to go to the tip several times.

there are no doubt people moaning about this who havnt really made much of an effort,but i genuinley have and its still not feasable.

for gawds sake im even putting tea bags and potato peelings in the right bin and it just doesnt bloody work.

i do believe we should recycle, and will continue to do so even if they bring back weekly colections- im just angry that were expected to recycle under a shite collection system that hinders rather than helps us to be more enviromentally friendly.

the way i see it i used to get 1 wheelie bin per week removed. so thats 4 a month. now i get 2 wheelie bins a month of general rubbish removed, plus 6 boxes of recycling stuff removed ( which doesnt even come to the equivalent of 1 wheelie bin full per month) call it 3/4 of a bin a month. all the compostable stuff and paper, only needs to be emptied every 4 months, so call that a 1/4 of a bin a month.

all in all that totals 3 wheelie bins a month at the very maximum.

so im still losing a full bin a month even though i recycle. plus im having to go to the tip and have cats going through the binbags that sit around in the garden. it obviously doesnt work.

ill let you know the councils response to the letter i wrote to them.
