March 16, 200422 yr Have you ever seen his interviews, the guy is fascinating. Very inteligent aswell, totall contrast of their mates from the early 90's Bez and Ryder!

March 16, 200422 yr Can't believe nobody is defending the Smiths. Yes Roses made a good album and a reasonable second. Yes they captured the moment and were cool for a while but compared to the groundbreaking conformist challenging genius that was the Smiths. Over the Roses they had Originality - Who the fcuk would appear on TOTPs with NHS glasses, rosemary beads and ragging flowers sticking out yer back pocket. Not to mention the hearing aid. Longevity - Album after album after album. Each album with firkin loads of top tracks - Look at Hatful of Hallow No exposure - When the Roses everyone was interested in Madchester. With the Smiths everyone slated them. Challenging perceived views - Who would name an album Meat is Murder now never mind 20 years ago and a track "Vicar in a Tutu"? The Roses are a top band and well worth respect but the Smiths are in league of their own. Just behind New Order.
March 16, 200422 yr Sloaney, cant argue with anything you say really. I only put these two up their because I dont think anyone els could touch them. New Order were great, but I dont think they had the extra bit of magic the The Roses and The Smiths had, as Joy Division they had that magic!
March 16, 200422 yr Carlos, you make Alexandra Palace and Spike Island as well? Great days indeed. Did you hear of the claims for "Spike Island Syndrome" compensation due to the amount of chemical dust being disturbed?
March 16, 200422 yr Was at Spike Ilsland. Had a ticket for the all nighter at Brixton Acadamy but was so dissapointed with the second album sold it. I think its fair to say I ballsed up there.
March 16, 200422 yr When you listen to Second Coming now, it sounds fooking awesom. Maybe a bit to far ahead of it time??? If it would have had a singer with a rocky voice like Liam Gallagher it would have sounded average like so many other albums, but its Ian Browns vocals which sets it apart from anything else!
March 16, 200422 yr Originality - Who the fcuk would appear on TOTPs with NHS glasses, rosemary beads and ragging flowers sticking out yer back pocket. Not to mention the hearing aid. Errr, Take your pick... Holly Jonson Andy Bell Any other bender on Canal Street.. Monks..

Did you hear of the claims for "Spike Island Syndrome" compensation due to the amount of chemical dust being disturbed? No, I thought they had sold out my then My 2p, Roses made possibly the best studio album of all time, but it took about 7 years to perfect, got some demo tape from 1983 somewhere. Second Coming was largely coke fuelled over indulgent pap. The Smiths on the other hand are pretty much untouchable in my eyes. Carlos Born in the same hospital as Morrissey :-$
March 16, 200422 yr Both great bands but The Smiths were far more prolific in their 4/5 years together and so must get the vote. Roses first album is now so overplayed that I am becoming sick of 'I am the Ressurection". DJ's with no imagination are ruining the memory!!
March 17, 200422 yr Nope, got that, this is similar but just them rehearsing basically. If you can dig that out, will you ket me borrow it ? Pretty Please Carl!
March 17, 200422 yr http://www.stoneroses.net/bootlegs/Spike.html You can buy the Spike Island gig on CD from this site. I have nearly, but never quite got around to doing this. Mainly cos I am tight and prefer to copy CDs than purchase. For me, the first Smiths appearance I can recollect was on Pebble Mill - or somert like that. Awesome. Then I noticed a lot of geeks liking them and I stayed my distance. Music was okay - didn't like the image. As fert Roses. Class. Brought me back from the brink of descending into a HM Grebo. Shudda gone to Blackpool but missed out on tickets only to be told by another mate that he'd ended up with a spare - a few days later!! Went to Spike Island. Good concert. Sound was shite. Only when reading reviews now have I become aware that the Roses live were shite - lacked confidence, etc. Didn't like the second LP at first, so stayed away from the corresponding tour. Gutted. I think the opening track is awesome - the build-up to it, etc. Have all the MP3s of theirs that I can find on my computer at work. I may now have a Roses afternoon. As for the Seahorses, now then......
March 17, 200422 yr Shit me smiley, how good is that website. The Glsagow Green Gig is supposed to the the best ever performance, im getting it!
March 17, 200422 yr Anyone heard John Squires latest solo album? Got the first and it was a bit hit and miss. Wondered if the 2nd was worth a listen.
March 17, 200422 yr I didnt fancy Squires at all, heard some bad stuff about it. Will probably get it, will go down to 6 quid soon. Not even heard of a second album!
March 17, 200422 yr Last year at the Move festival at Lancs CC, Squire was playing, walks on and starts playing Made of Stone. Oh my ragging lord!!!

Roses for me, every time.
