I'm not sure how that makes Chelsea pricks.

I would suggest it is us that are the pricks if another club can turn a six million-plus profit on a player they paid us cock all for.

no that is the system, blame Bosman.

Player does nt sign a contract so gets a good deal.

Also lets remember the ?8m is paper talk.

Bosman only asked a question, he didn't make the rules.

If a player doesn't sign a contract a club still has the option to sell him before his contract runs out.

And it's still a valid point regardless of whether the papers have made it up.

I meant the rule not the player.

The value of a player is increased by the length of term left on their contract.

If we had had sold tbh in Jan last year we would nt have got full value because everyone knew he would be free in summer.

Also you can not sell a player if he is in contract and does not want to go.

All true.

However, we'd have got something instead of nothing, and I'd need a lot of convincing that TBH would have turned down a move to Chelsea in January.

Something is better the the nothing we got for him.

so if we sold him for say ?1m in Jan people would have said that was good business ?

by keeping him did he contribute anything to our run in that might have made the difference between getting into europe or not ?

it is about judgement calls and opnions, one thing i can guarantee is that if we had sold him in Jan the doom and gloom merchants would be on here slagging the club of for lack of ambition.

i think he is a top drawer player and would have him back no problem.

Agree with all of that; at the time I wanted him to stay as I believed his contribution post January would have been worth more than any fee generated for him at that time (which would have been heavily discounted due to the contract situation) and I guess the club's mgt felt the same.

It's always a tough call to make and IF we didn't keep Haim for that period you never know, we may not have had the trips to Belgrade, Munich and the forthcoming one to Madrid...

Didnt FSA have that Rozenhal lined up this time last year but we couldn't get enough out of Chelsea for TBH to pay for him, hence the deals were doomed.

He probably contributed a bit to our run-in. That said, we only won four times after January, and we could probably have muddled through games against Watford, Fulham and Sheffield United without him. He was replaced after 35 minutes against Wigan because he couldn't be arsed, and he missed the draws against Everton and Chelsea before coming back for the last game of the season against Villa.

All that is beside the point. If we're going to avoid losing valuable assets in the future then we need to have some sort of deadline for getting shut of players who aren't going to sign deals. My original point was that you could hardly blame Chelsea if they did chose to sell him on at a massive profit.

I don't think he's top drawer by any stretch, but he's certainly a good player, and I wouldn't have any problems having him back either.
