February 5, 200818 yr Has completed his move to City for ?3.87m. Surely Pompey were prepared to accept such a small amount to fund the Defoe move?! Can't remember how much Pompey paid for him originally but he's scored a fair few for them this season to let him go for a small initial fee. http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_3110796,00.html
February 5, 200818 yr thats not bad as 8million was ben quoted last week on sky, almost same figure as defoe was coming in for

Thought DeFoe was on loan though ??
February 5, 200818 yr Considering hat we have been paying for players in other positions and our dire need for a strier, then thats a steal
February 5, 200818 yr Author Thats very cheap IMO. Thought DeFoe was on loan though ?? I was actually away when the Defoe deal went through so not 100% sure if it is loan or a transfer.

February 5, 200818 yr ?3.7m is only the initial fee. If he turns out to be shit he'll be expensive and if he turns out to be sucessful the fee will more than double.
February 5, 200818 yr Author ?3.7m is only the initial fee. If he turns out to be shit he'll be expensive and if he turns out to be sucessful the fee will more than double. When you consider Marlon King moving for ?5m though? Had a nasty injury and not proven himself in the Prem before
February 5, 200818 yr When you consider Marlon King moving for ?5m though? Had a nasty injury and not proven himself in the Prem before I see what you're saying. But King going for ?5m and Chopra going for an equally riduculous fee doesn't necessarily make every other transfer of a lesser value a bargain. I just think Benjani is hugely overrated because he has scored a couple of hat-tricks this season against crap sides.

Remember he couldn't hit a barn door last year but the fact remains that he's proven he can score goals and he's confident this season. Crap teams / good teams, they all have the same value.

Crap teams / good teams, they all have the same value. 12 league goals this season. 6 last season. 1 the season before that. Marlon Harewood has scored more league goals over the same time period and went for ?3.7m in total. Not saying he is better/worse than Benjani just throwing it into the mix. Half of Benjani's goals this season came in two games against possibly the worst side to grace the Premier League and a team who have last the last 6 on the bounce.
February 5, 200818 yr The Massives have done well out of this. Portsmouth were desperate to sell him and City were the only club they could sign him having lodged the paperwork with the FA Premier League before the deadline. City have told Portsmouth to rip up the ?8M offer we made last week. Take ?3.87M now or we walk away. Edited February 5, 200818 yr by YATESY
February 5, 200818 yr He is so crap, who remembers him last season ?? Easily the worst player all last season.

February 5, 200818 yr The 3.87million is only an initial fee, it was going to be round the 8 million figure but something came up in his medical which man city weren't happy about so the rest of the money (5million) is based on appearances.

Heard on the radio that he has to play 75 Premiership games in 2.5 seasons. That works out at about 85% of games he must play for City. With their young strike force coming through; Bojinov, Sturridge etc I can't see it happening meaning City won't have to pay the fee in full. Whether this is true or not, I'm not sure.

Not saying he is better/worse than Benjani just throwing it into the mix. This time last season, when Benjani was struggling to make an impact in his first full season in the Prem, Portsmouth would've been disappointed considering the ?4m+ they paid.

When Sky Sports had it as breaking news this afternoon they said City will pay the rest of the fee (?4m) once he has made 75 starts for the club. Any odds he'll be sold after 74 of those "75."

Any odds he'll be sold after 74 of those "75." Starting 85% of games is a big ask for anybody! He will need to be constantly on form, stay clear of injuries and hope City don't rest him. City have got a good deal in this - he won't start 75 games.
February 6, 200818 yr Yossi is spot on - he's complete w?nk, with the exception of the odd flukey game against lesser sides (like us!).
February 6, 200818 yr From Sky Sport : City will pay an initial ?3.87million up front, with the remaining half of the ?7.75million fee due to be paid in three instalments when the 29-year-old makes 25, 50 and 75 starts for Sven Goran Eriksson's team
