Manchester Senior Cup Result

Manchester Senior Cup: Wanderers 3 -2 Bury

Posted on: Mon 14 Apr 2008

TWO explosive finishes from teenage striker Temitope Obadeyi kept Bolton's reserves on course for a possible place in the final of the Manchester Senior Cup.

Obadeyi struck twice in the space of ten second-half minutes as Bolton twice came from behind to record their third win in the competition.

Victory in their final group game away to Stockport County could now be enough to take Jimmy Phillips' youngsters through to the final.

Bolton looked on course for a more comfortable evening at Leyland when they carved out a number of early chances.

But captain Rob Sissons was twice off target and Obadeyi was also denied by Bury keeper Aaron Grundy.

And with the visitors growing in confidence it was the underdogs who took the lead five minutes before the break when Adam Bogdan, who had earlier saved well from Domaine Rouse, was given no chance by Dale Stephens' fierce drive.

Stung by that goal Bolton were quickly out of the traps at the start of the second half and after Michael Burns had failed to round Grundy when put clean through they levelled when Bury full-back Carlos Edmondson-Rouse headed a Nathan Wolfe cross into his own net.

The plucky Shakers hit back to restore their lead just nine minutes later when Rouse got away with a push on substitute Chris Stokes to slot home.

But Obadeyi then took centre stage to secure the tie. Within 60 seconds the England under-19 international burst through the Shakers defence to make it 2-2 and then after Burns had squandered another chance showed great footwork on the edge of the penalty area to make room for a shot which he buried into the bottom corner.

Obadeyi would then have completed a hat-trick but for an inadvertent block by team-mate Aaron Mooy and that could have proved costly had Bogdan not made a fine late save from a Ryan Hall free-kick to maintain Bolton's lead.

Bolton: Bogdan, Sinclair (Mooy 66), Carlisle, Sheridan, Gbemie (Stokes ht), Fojut, Thompson, Sissons, Obadeyi, Burns, Woolfe (Harsanyi 69).

Bury: Grundy, Mallion, Edmondson-Rouse, Parkinson, Thompson, Stephens, Mangan (Fields 60), Hall, Rouse, Holmes, Dorney.

Temitope Obadeyi - this lad has some pace. Would be interesting to see him thrown in at the deep end with 15 mins to go in a game we are chasing.

Tope Obadeyi ? Bolton Wanderers

DOB 29/10/89, Caps 3

Tope has taken almost two years to win his three international caps, although each has come at a different age group since he made his debut for the U17s against Turkey. Tope has an eye for goal, as shown when he netted against Belarus last month, while his goals helped Bolton win the Premiership Reserve Team North League last season.

So 18 then

Not seen many players quicker than him. He hasnt been taught how to pass a ball though.

Bolton aint gonna play him, they dont give younsters a game.

Might be alright in the championship next season
