You Mustaphe Look At This , Tonights Game

The reserve /senior cup , Bolton 2 - 2 Man City ( Bolton won 4-3 on pens )

NEW signing Mustapha Riga gave Wanderers fans a glimpse of what they can expect with a stunning strike ? but the reserves still needed penalties to overcome Manchester City in the Manchester Senior Cup.

The former Levante ace looked to have sealed victory for Bolton in normal time when he crashed home an unstoppable 75th-minute volley at Leyland?s County Ground last night, but Paul Marshall last-minute header sent the tie to spot-kicks.

Winger Karl Moore handed City an early lead before captain Dzmaili, Vaz Te, twice, and Riga all wasted excellent first-half opportunities to draw the hosts level.

The chances continued to flow after the break with Wanderers defender Chris Basham and Vaz Te each rattling the crossbar, before Cohen equalised on 70 minutes.

Five minutes later Bolton were head thanks to Riga?s fine finish, but they could not hold on as Marshall struck late on.

Blerim Dzmaili, Riga, Nicky Hunt and, finally, Ricardo Vaz Te made sure Wanderers made a winning start to the new season in shootout ? and spared the blushes of Nathan Woolfe, Gardner and Temitope Obadeyi who all missed

Dunno what you make of that , but it was good to hear Riga scoring another sweet goal and we might of found ourselves a decent penny/set piece taker in Dzemaili , and Vaz te scored is penalty aswell and apparently had a lot of chances .

I think riga is gonna be a legend @ Bolton , i think his pace is what we need and and Taylor could add great variety on our wide play . Im very confident for this new season , it's good to see our new signings have all scored ( not shi, ttubag ) and seem to be jeeling in aswell .

I hope he does go onto replace Diouf and be that creative player on the wing that can provide and score goals. I am sure he is very talented but the big qustion is can he be consistent. If not then i'm sure Megson would have doubts over playing him. But the lad seems to have settled in well and has scored 2 goals in 3 games (albeit the 3rd game he came on as a late sub) and by all accounts both goals (particularly the 2nd one against City) are very good goals.

It's nice to see that in tonights game the players were creating lots of chances and that the team were making them + getting into good scoring positions. Vaz Te and Dzemaili both sounded as tho they had busy games. I can't really give too much credit as i'm not sure what the Man City line up was - it could have been a bunch of kids for all we know. But its good to see these fringe players getting a good run out and match practice. There was no Elmander tonight which i was slightly surprised about as he's only played in 2 pre-season friendlies. Hopefully this means that he's fully fit and is raring to go against Stoke. I can see Megson wanting to start with a team with mainly Prem experience + Elmander. I doubt we'll see the likes of Dzemaili and Riga featuring from the start but i'm sure they'll be on the bench along with Vaz Te to provie some decent attacking options if they are needed.

Bring on Stoke!!

I really hope Megson plays Riga from the start and doesnt be negative and play rather McCann or JOB instead , Id rather he played Dzemaili if he did that .

I've just seen the team on Man City's website

Team: Martin, Vidal, Williamson, McGivern, McDonald, Clayton, Weiss, Marshall, Daly, Poole, Moore.

Subs: D Ball, Hartley, Mee, Tsiaklis, Morris

So that means our team with some experienced players just managed to beat on penalties a very youthful City side with no recognisable names or 1st team players. I'm glad to see that our fringe players have gotten more fitness + matches under their belts but against this team and its relative inexperience we should not be struggling to beat them

The team will be:

Jussi

Steinsson, Cahill, AOB, Samuel

Nolan, McCann, Muamba

Davies, Elmander, Taylor

Subs: Al Habsi, Hunt, Shittu, Gardner, JOB/Dzemaili, Riga, Vaz Te

Megson will go for Prem experience and will want to ease players like Riga, Shittu, Dzemaili into the team. I think this is sensible. As much as i would like to see Riga in he has never played in the Prem and Megon will want a team which is organised and recognisable and comfortable with each other. He won't want to risk dropping points at home against stoke as a win is vital. I can see Riga and Dzemaili coming on if we aren't winning or if in the unlikelist of circumstances we have a comfortable lead with about 20-25 minutes remaining (i.e. 3-0 up which prob isn't gonna happen!!)

See, they're forming an alliance now. Like gingers, they should be kept apart.

Widnes, when is this Night Of the Long Knives due?

I fear for the future. The yoof are either stabbing each other or "stabbing" each other.

It's a fookin Manchester Cup game Jonthan - get a grip mate. Who won? That's all that matters in any game. I would mind struggling every game of the season and scrapin more wins than defeats.
