Sadly gone are the days that I can tackle what my brother liked to call Napalm Death Curry.

 

I had a stomach problem and the medication did'nt work. Doctor told me to stop eating really hot

curries / chillies and to cut down on citrus fruit. Problem solved & I've not had anything stronger than a madras in over year boo hoo sob sob. Its like drinking Carling 2.0 after Stella

 

Prior to that I would tuck into Ceylons, Phal's, Chilli Massalla's on a regular basis. If i got a take away Vindaloo I would generally nuke it with chillies. A mate tried the sauce on one of my curries, no more than a drop and he said it nearly killed him.

or better still just get the fruits from Tesco, save some of the seeds when you brew the curry up, and if you liked the taste then plant the seeds. This time next year - wallop!

I grew some last year from some seeds someone give me,normal size pot,

 

just put them in the kitchen in the light,got about 20 alltogether,

 

just water them as you would a normal plant.

 

Soil not sure really.

Just get standard potting compost from B&Q - some of the types they do say they are specific for germinating seeds, but

any general purpose will do really

 

How big a pot?

 

Well I've got some Dorsets that are 2 foot tall and are only in 4 inch pots still. To grow much taller you need to

replant into a 6 incher.

 

Where are they kept, darkness or sunlight?

 

Hard and slow part is germination. That can be in the dark, needs no great amount of water - though soaking the seeds for an hour before planting helps. warmth is good to get 'em sprouting and if you've got ?15 or so to spare you can buy a heated propagator. but they will eventually come up just as well without that. Airing cupboard is good.

Once up then get them in as much light as possible.

 

How often do you water them?

 

Bit every day when big. Plus a bit of liquid feed every few weeks

 

How long do they take to grow from planting to ready for picking?

 

Depends on time of year. the ones I'm getting the Nagas off now were planted last summer! On the other hand faster growing ones could get you stuff in a few months as long as they're kept fairly warm. If you get the thin little "Bird Eye" ones from the supermarket they're dirt cheap and bloody hot, have loads of seeds and are piss easy to germinate and fruit. Get about 6 foot tall as well.

Got some of the Dorsets today from Tesco - small, green and unripe; and not even grown on the original Dorset farm, which I've been to. Not impressed. Grow yer own

PS If anyone wants some seeds from plants grown on the genuine farm Dorset where they originated I have 'em.

PPS If you want a quick growing one that will give bastard hot fruits, get some Scotch Bonnets from Tesco or Asda and use the seeds from that. Plants dpn't grow very tall and give golf-ball sized fruit within 4 or 5 months of planting (though I did plant in March, might not be so quick if planted now).

PPPS I've got some fruit from Scotch Bonnets grown right next to Dorset Nageas, and they look like a cross between the two. Dorset Bonnets or Scotch Naga?

I read somewhere that you are not supposed to put them near other chilli plants as they cross-pollenate and you just get hot little b@stards.
