There should be employment laws against men doing that for a living!

I saw this practice happen once many years ago in a chippy in Morris Green. They even had a checked teatowel to carry it home with too. My ex is from them there parts.

I just thought it was a MG thing, they're an odd sort! =@

I sit here in amazement and am texting someone I know from Farnworth as I type to confirm this

Presumably to join a queue bearing your own crockery you were required to wear a flat cap and be covered in an inch of soot?

As a kid I used to get sent to Lilly Whites up Athy on Friday teatmie with a big glass bowl and a couple of quid. I'd queue for about 20 minutes then have to run back wom with it.

When we'd finished, we'd fill it with water ad put the goldfish back in.

I'm northern. Properly. I've got the accent, the xenophobia beyond BL postcodes, I like black peas and I remember the fountains in town.

But this practice is an absolute eye-opener and I am doubting my northern credentials.

I'm off to the kitchen to whip myself with whippets and traction engines.

I can feel a dearth of working class, monty python type "you were lucky lad" posts coming on!
