I stayed in the Selfridge a couple of years back. Only about 70 quid per night for a 4 star hotel (it was a bit Laura Ashley though). Think I got it via expedia. A lot of the big hotels slash their weekend rates closer to the time.

I've managed to stay in a couple of decent 4* and 5* hotels for around ?100 per night. I've generally booked via lastminute.com, they have an olption where you can choose the approximate locations (i.e Theatreland, Oxford St....) you stick in your dates and they give you a list of hotels, but don't tell you the name of the hotel until you've booked. - I think they call it "secret hotels" - like I say, I've done ti twice in the past, and never had a bad hotel. It might be worth looking at

Hilton London Metropole on Edgeware Rd is good vale and a good location.

 

Stayed here last year; its OK but in a very big ethnic area (Morocans, Libyans, Egyptians etc). Had problems with the check in who were less than useful (speaking English would have helped, plus giving us a room which wasnt already occupied, blah blah blah, lost 2 hours of my life fucking about).

 

You are definatly not a customer, you are a moneypig, but thats par for the course in big cities.

 

If you do go, you have to queue up for a table for breakfast unless you go at 6am. And the pool in manky. I thought it was a bit of a way out from the tourist areas.

 

In fact, thinking about it more, it was fairly shite but then again for ?79 its not bad value.

Stay here with work a lot, and really good value.

 

Rooms are quite simple but clean, breakfast is excellent, and staff are much more friendly than in some more 'posh' hotels.

 

Was late for work one morning after a night on the p$ss, so went to breakfast and asked chap on't desk if I could just grab a bacon butty to go? No problems. Went to hot plate and made up said door wedge and turned round to go when same guy has turned up with some serviettes and a paper bag to put my butty in plus a takeaway costa coffee cup asking if I would like it filling up for a coffee to go as well!!! Top man.

 

Now that is what you should really expect from staff in the hospitality industry but in my experience it very rarely happens!!

 

In fact don't stay there, I have just tempted fate way too much, the staff will be shit and you will blame me!!

Novotel between euston station and kings cross, is within your budget and handily placed for getting about.
