HomerJay Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 random question of the week time. we have a combi boiler with a programmer and a thermostat. intermittantly we have no hot water, but the rads beating out heat. even though only the hot water is on but he heating is actually off at the programmer. is the programmer fooked or do i have an actual plumbing problem? the programmer is a Drayton lifestyle LP241 which i can replace for about ?40 any plumber type people on here who could spread a little light on the subject. reluctant to get a plumber out and subsequently bummed dryer that graham norton at a barrymoore pool party. cheers
Compo Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 I know fook all about boilers, but from past experience I would hazard a guess at the diverter valve. Stupid question (no I'm not based in Nigeria) but do you have an RBS account?
Zozzy Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 I know fook all about boilers, but from past experience I would hazard a guess at the diverter valve. If the only way you could get hot water through the tap was when the central heating was switched on I would say it is definately a faulty diverter valve. But this seems to be the opposite way round with the rads coming on when switched to hot water Only. Strange
Compo Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 True Zozzy, just we had a similar problem where we had HW but no CH. It was the diverter valve in the end, something to do with the wax capsule inside not functioning properly. Also had a leaking HW tap tricking the boiler into thinking it was supplying HW so the CH wouldn't come on. Confused? I know I was
floyd Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 e the heating plates have gotten some sh*t between them. Had that replaced last year, ???400 approx.
HomerJay Posted March 10, 2009 Author Posted March 10, 2009 (edited) 400 bastard quid! how much is a diverter valve? http://content.honeywell.com/uk/homes/Cata....20%20V4044.pdf is it sommit i could fit myself? im guessing it diverts hot water to the taps or rads? Edited March 10, 2009 by HomerJay

HomerJay Posted March 10, 2009 Author Posted March 10, 2009 i think this is mine. http://www.plumbnation.co.uk/site/drayton-...otorised-valve/ any advances on this being the problem?
Traf Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Speak to Kempo's dad: bobdaplumber His name is Bob and guess what he does for a living.
HomerJay Posted March 10, 2009 Author Posted March 10, 2009 hmm, im still of the opinion the programmer is not telling the combi or the diverter valve what to do. when i turn hot water on, the boiler kicks in and i get hot rads, but no hot water. when i turn the heating on, the boiler does nowt and i get no heating. its gotta be the programmer doesnt it? i can replace that will minimum effort, the diverter valve is venturing into a world where i need a plumber i reckon.
Widnes Two Hats Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Sounds like the clackervalve to me Double chack the nipsy
HomerJay Posted March 10, 2009 Author Posted March 10, 2009 somebody has suggested this? http://www.screwfix.com/prods/28670/Plumbi...nchronous-Motor
nearlyeverywere Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 somebody has suggested this? http://www.screwfix.com/prods/28670/Plumbi...nchronous-Motor it is the diverter valve, what make of combi boiler is it ?my pal had an ocean alpha,it did exactly what you are describing.thing is with the alpha,it is in the heating mode, but gives hot water priority.the diverter valve basically diverts the heat through the hot water section within the boiler, when the diverter fails,it thinks it is heating up the hot water, but it ciculates through the radiators.depends what type of combi it is.

EDIT: in fact i know its not a combi now, its a totally shite boiler its a glow worm micron 60ff and this is my diverter valve, which is red hot, and all pipes into it are too??? http://www.eliwell.it/NR/rdonlyres/6FD690B...MotorValves.pdf i dont seem to be able to move any of the switches on this? Traf Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 PM'd him. It's for the best before Homer blows the whole fucking street up!
HomerJay Posted March 10, 2009 Author Posted March 10, 2009 ah fuck the street. thanks for the offer kempo, i will keep it in mind if i dont manage to sort myself. im getting a clear idea now after doing a lot of reading. it deffo seems like the diverter valve as suggested by compo.
HomerJay Posted March 10, 2009 Author Posted March 10, 2009 its working its working its working its working i turned off at the mains, and it reset itself. since i can change at the programmer and all is fine?? go figure
Compo Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 i have natwest which is part of RBS, does that count? why? Fook knows, but if you have a RBS Royalties account you are covered with free boiler breakdown cover. Just don't wait until you have paid some pikey ?170 to fook it up even further before you find out
