Not seen it covered elsewhere, but Cahill's move to Bolton...

 

Now we all know that Brum were in for him, but I didn't realise that Gold believed the deal was in place for weeks and (now I can't remember the exact time Cahil supposedly signed for us but...) he reckons that with as little as 5hrs left in the window he was under the impression Cahill was signing for them...

 

Although it was a risky move leaving it so late and probably a bit of a punt, fair play to those involved at BWFC for changing Gary's mind at that stage...could have been oh so different...

Based on the "quality" of the other centre backs Megson was able to attract to the club, I would go as to say that the signing of Cahill was the biggest factor in our Premier League survival.

Fair play to He Who Must Not Be Named for signing Cahill. As has been said before his record in the transfer market was generally good until his defensive spending spree last summer. Big Sam signed some absolute gems but he did have a hit rate of about 1 in 20 on signings.

The 2 center backs brum have now are a quality pairing, and wont be at brum for long.

I remember Sullivan & Gold whining about this in the midlands press at the time. Cahill would have got paid more at Blues.
