Supporters could be given the chance to buy a stake in their club under radical proposals being considered by Labour in their election manifesto.

Used to have shares in Burnden Leisure but they were worth about 12p each from what i remember. Wouldnt mind doing it again though :good:

As the Tories say "a pre election gimmick"

It won't happen

It's the most ridiculous idea I've heard for a while, how exactly does the government think they could make it work? - even if 25% of the clubs was given up, fans would still have no real say in the running of the club, as the percentage isn't high enough. Blatent "electioneering"

Its another nail in the Labour coffin.

It will go down as one of the most obvious election gimmicks in history.

Whats happened to Ebbsfleet or whatever they are called since so called fans bought into them?

fighting relegation.

This season they revoked the fan team selection idea. Not helped though.

The fans voting to sell top scorer last season fucked em up.

So revoking the 'fans' the option of team selction has fucked them up but by the same token they voted to sell the top scorer

Surely buying championship msnsger would have been the better option

sorry, I meant they were shit last season when the fans picked the team. They changed that this season but they are still crap.

Ebbsfleet was always a bad idea.

A fans' director on the Board would be a bit more useful.

I don't remember getting any money back on my shares when ED bought the club, so I'd hardly be likely to repeat the exercise.

I still have the certificates for my Burnden shares....but Uncle Eddie keeps them in his back pocket for me

From that article

Liberal Democrat shadow culture, media and sport secretary, Don Foster said: "Supporter ownership is a nice idea but will be nothing more than a pipe dream for most fans.

"We urgently need a radical overhaul of the FA to better represent supporters and act in the interests of the game.

"Ministers need to promise to look at other issues of desperate importance to fans, like ticket prices, safe standing and facilities for disabled supporters."

Now there's a gimmick i'd vote for.
