I think it's regional thing to be honest. I don't think any self-respecting professional would enter a career South of Birmingham where they were capped at 70K no matter how well they were promoted, it's pretty easy to get that kind of salary by age 30 in standard industry (i.e. not investment banking/management consultancy/anything exciting) round here, so you'd end up with an even better grade of cretin in charge with those wages.
