I think that the police do look to the family members to do an appeal to see how they react. There is some alarming stat that I read somewhere that shows that in an incredibly high amount of murders, it is somebody who the person knew quite well.

 

They have arrested somebody for the murder of Jo Yates, I think he was a neighbour....and German or Dutch or something if my memory serves me right
