can anbody help me here.

 

i have virgin broadband, with a "super" hub. My tablet and phone connect to it wirelessly (is that spelt correctly) no problem. i search for it, find it, and enter the pass code written on the side of the superhub no problem.

 

But, my laptop, running on vista, will only connect locally. (i can connect with an ethernet cable to full internet)

 

when i try to connect wirelessly it only goes as far as local connection, and when i click diagnose it says hub not communicating, and to reboot it which i do, but no joy. it never asks and never has asked me for the password to connect wirelessly, so i just use the cable, which is a pain.

 

Any ideas how to resolve this? is the wireless card not working? how do i check this? (it lights up when on)

When I sitched over to the superhub I had no problem at all connecting the phones, tablets and 3 laptops in the house. The only problem I have is with the PC in my office, which refuses to connect. The PC is always looking for the old hub, I even go in and delete the odl information and then it reappears again within about 5 seconds.

 

When working at home now, I have to have a long wire out of one room (where the hub lives) and into the office, it's a right pain

 

When I go to "Manage Wireless Networks" I can see the "old" network and the new network. The PC always insists on trying to connect to the old network. I delete the old network and it appears again within seconds. I move the old network down to second in the queue so that the new network should take priority, within a matter of seconds the old network is back in pole position again.

 

I've tried for weeks to fix it, but havejust given up now

Just checked again, and when I go into "connect to a network" I can see that all it flicks between saying "Security Enabled Network" and "Acquiring IP Address"

 

It's proper fucking odd, as everything else in the house connects without issue.

After that go into your network settings find your hub, right click and click disconnect.

 

Rub it with a baloon again.

 

Turn your wireless off and on at the laptop.

 

Google how to kill an elephant in your phone and then go back to your laptop. Bottom right you'll see the wireless indicator. Right click and then find your hub listed

 

Click connect and if it doesn't ask you for a pass code then throw it in the bin an buy a new one.

I've tried all of that, and even gone as far as wearing a pair of Farrahs and patent leather slip on shoes whilst doing it, and to no avail.

It may be using a security option (WPA) that isn't supported by Vista.

 

Try turning off security and see if you can connect with Vista - but don't leave security off. If it works, use WEP rather than WPA, which I think is the default.

Put said hub in the freezer for an hour.
