Probably the least interesting topic title in the history of forums, but in the absence of an available Father figure, I am turning to WW for help.

 

Basically - I think the seal around our bath has been letting in water and have noticed that the plaster on the other side of the wall is crumbling.  Has anybody got any idea who the right person to call for a job like this is?  Plasterer? Builder? Plumber? Or a combination of all 3?

The bath is next to a wall.  On the other side of that wall is a bedroom which is suffering from wall crumbledge.

 

The crumbledge is occuring at roughly the same height as where the seal is around the bath.

A plasterer.  Reseal the bath then a plasterer will hack it all off and start again.  Should be reet.

Rub the crumbledge with a BLOON

Collect the crumblage and sprinkle it liberally over bacon, onion and potatoes (bit of apple too perhaps) - season with salt and pepper and bake in the oven for about 45 minutes to an hour.

I'm a plasterer of 40 years experience.

 

It's a common problem that does occur when the bath is not sealed correctly.  After a while the bricks get saturated by the water soaked up by the plaster.

 

I presume you have tiles around the bath? probably sat on top of either the bath direct or a quadrant seal which the tiles sit on. and make a seal on the bath and wall.

 

If you have tiles sat on the bath remove seal and re seal filling the bath full of water and re sealing with a quality silicon (clear) Make sure the entire area is completely dry before applying the seal.

 

If you have a quadrant, remove it, clean area dry and re seal. Fit new external bath quadrant, this is the plastic which has a rubber lip on either side.

 

You may also remove the bottom row of tiles but ensure you have spares because they do break easy.

 

On the bedroom side, no doubt it will be the old horse hair lime and cement or a more modern property of plasterboard. If it is wet to the floor allow it to dry before re decoration, If in doubt remove it and re do.
